Nirvana Restaurant and Retreat — Restaurant in Guanajuato

This review is for the restaurant only. I did not stay in the lodging, just ate at the restaurant.

Quick initial thoughts, Great experience. Very good food. Great service. We stumbled upon this place by accident but it turned into such a great place! The food is pricey.

International dishes using local ingredients. I personally tried the cheese ravioli with butternut squash sauce and it was very flavorful. The cheese was not overpowering if anything the squash was front and center.

The brownie with vanilla ice cream was my favorite. To be honest it was the vanilla ice cream that was SO GOOD. Pricey but worth it.

This place is in the middle of no where but the scenery definitely added to the atmosphere. Very calm, we arrived while it was slightly drizzling and ate outside, but the staff provided small blankets which was such a sweet touch.

Definitely worth trying once if you are near San Miguel de Allende. Please note it is about 40ish minutes from the center so it is in the outskirts of the city.

Just don’t know what happened to this usually wonderful restaurant. We had to return two dishes, mine the shrimp cocktail because the shrimp was still frozen and was just floating in pure ketchup, the other because the lamb chops could not be cut into, let alone eaten. The waiting staff were overwhelmed so extremely slow service even though we were in no hurry and all the timing of dishes was messed up. Margaritas were great! The place as gorgeous as always, but so sad we won’t be going back to what was our favourite restaurant ...

We joined my mom and her friends for lunch. The steak tacos (4) was excellent as was the guacamole. Everyone at the table thoroughly enjoyed their meals and drinks. My daughter and scheduled massages for after lunch, we both thought our individual massages were incredible. We spent about 4 1/2 hours there eating, receiving massage, and playing Mexican Train - couldn't believe how fast the time went. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
