Peña de Bernal - CLIMBING AREA — Attraction in Querétaro

This was a fun hike to do. Parts of it are more of a scramble than a hike. I would recommend runners with a decent grip as there are some slick rocks that get covered with dust and things can get slippy. We hiked as far as you can without climbing gear. Beautiful view of the valley below.

We found a rare free parking lot. You have to pay 30 pesos for a wrist band to do the hike. There's a restaurant at the bottom with a bathroom for 10 pesos.

For an idea of the difficulty, it took me about 55 mins to get to the top. There are some steep parts and this hike is at elevation so I had to stop to catch my breath. I'm in decent shape but not any kind of super star. My husband probably could have done it in 40 if he wasn't...

This was a strenuous hike on a hot day!! It took me a total of 2 hours up and down with breaks in-between. Though it was hard, I'm glad I made it as close to the top as I could. I found parking close to it and paid $50 pesos and an additional $30 pesos to enter. Bring lots of water, sunscreen, hiking shoes, hats, glasses. I made the mistake of not wearing sunscreen or a hat or glasses. At least I had water, even though it wasn't enough. It was fun being the only black person in that whole town at that time. I got lots of stares but I didn't care. I hiked it by myself, probably not a smart thing...

Es un pueblo mágico ubicado en el municipio de Ezequiel Montes en el Estado de Querétaro, aproximadamente a tres horas de la Ciudad de México, es famoso por el gran monolito de origen volcánico, con el que da inicio la Sierra Gorda de Querétaro, este monolito es el tercero en tamaño en todo el mundo y a sus faldas se desarrolla la actividad cotidiana marcada fuertemente por el turismo y las artesanías. Yo fui de fin de semana con mi esposa y nos hospedamos en el Hotel Hacienda Real, pequeño pero acogedor sitio en sintonía con el pueblo, a Dios calles del punto de acceso a la Peña, desde la cual se obtienen vistas increíbles del pueblo y del Valle, la Peña como tal también resulta todo un tema fotográfico ya que desde diversos ángulos y horarios se aprecian los efectos de luces y sombras que produce el sol conforme transcurre el día. Hay variedad de artesanías, una muy buena gastronomía tanto nacional como internacional, es muy recomendable el Restaurante El Mezquite, ubicado en la famosa Casona Cabrera, con excelente cocina y precios adecuados. En este mismo sitio se llevan a cabo representaciones lúdicas de antiguas leyendas locales. Una ventaja más es que el pueblo está ubicado dentro de la ruta del vino, el queso y el arte, que comprende también a San Juan del Río y a Tequisquiapan, en Ezequiel Montes hay viñedos famosos y no tan famosos que ofrecen visitas y degustaciones de sus vinos, tal es el caso de los viñedos Freixenet y De Cote. Es una visita 100% recomendable para los amantes de la tranquilidad, los buenos paisajes y el buen comer y beber. Lo recomiendo...
