Rent your Six Seater Golf Cart for a day

We rented our golf cart from Leo. He had the best price and best customer service. Leo was the only shop that has a Six Seater Golf Cart. Caution You must rent your golf cart before 7pm otherwise it would be impossible to find. If you happen to be coming to the Island by yourself you may just decide to walk everywhere or rent a bicycle for 24 hours, however if you here in a group of 2-6 people just do yourself a favor Rent the golf cart and save tons of "Pesos" instead of paying for Taxis. Specifically if you are planning on seeing the Bioluminescent at the Beach. The so-called tours are $250 pesos per person and basically the person you pay the money to orders a taxi for you. The Taxi guy is just going to rush there and back to try and get other tourist before the night is over. The Bioluminescent happens at a public beach so there is no need to hire anyone, just make your way to the beach at night and enjoy at your own pace. Tips: Once at the beach turn off all your lights, don't ruin the Bioluminescent spectacle. It needs to be in complete darkness. Also Mosquito Repellent, the mosquitoes are very aggressive and can ruin the whole experience. Do not hail a taxi from the Pier to your hotel. Just walk straight to the Golf Cart rentals.

**We rented our golf cart with Leo, can't miss him. He has the red golf carts. Once you exit the ferry simply walk straight towards the downtown area and literally 5 short blocks make a right on Geronimo Aguilar Street. The street sign is very visible "Aguilar". Once you make a right just look for the Red Golf Carts. Is common practice for them to keep your "ID...

One of the main beaches outside of the hotel zone on Isla Hobox - for your first trip out I recommend catching a golf cart taxi in the main plaza to gauge the distance before you attempt to walk/bike to this beach. This beach is one of the main areas where the island's flamingos eat and sleep so please obey all signs and warnings about respecting the wildlife.

Punta Cocos also has the longest grouping of water hammocks which make a for a great photo op and lounging spot. I recommend bringing your own towel and water as there's a grouping of misc lounge chairs and shade, but not an official resort area (do not expect resort service, you may be asked to pay to rent a bed). There is a makeshift bar on the beach that's sometimes staffed. Roughly a block away up the road is a restaurant/bar with great drinks and friendly staff to visit if you're hungry.

This is also one of the bio-luminescence observation areas in the lagoon area behind the main beach. If you purchase a tour you'll arrive here at night to observe the glowing plankton - please be cautious if arriving without a guide: do not use flashlights or lasers, avoid any sleeping flamingos and keep your group together. (Alligators...

If you're looking to experience the stunning natural phenomenon of bioluminescence in Punto Cocos, here is a guide to help you make the most of your trip:

Check the weather forecast: Seeing bioluminescence is all about timing, so it's important to check the weather forecast ahead of time to ensure that conditions are favorable. Rain can make it difficult to see the bioluminescence, so try to plan your trip for a clear night.

Choose the right time of year: The best time to see bioluminescence in Punto Cocos is typically during the dry season, which according to internet runs from December to May, but locals say that it ends in November. Generally it has to be warm, the water is generally clearer then, which makes it easier to see the glowing plankton. The best is to call the services that offer luminescence tours (for example with paddle board or kayaking) and ask them whether they plan to work at particular time - even before going to holbox.

Be prepared for the water level: If it has been raining heavily, the water level on the streets may be high, which can make it difficult to reach the beach. Wear shoes that you don't mind getting wet, and be prepared to wade through shallow water...
