Incidentally, Arnelle was built in the early 1960s on 11 hectares of land that was once part of a Jewish cemetery. The Soviets moved the remains that had been moved for the park to a new burial ground, leaving part of the old cemetery intact. There is a memorial in the park called the 1903 Pogrom Memorial, which commemorates dozens of victims of the anti-Semitic riots in 1903 and 1905. Love this park! It’s in a super convenient location, easy to get to, and once you’re inside, it feels like a calm, green escape from the city. The whole place is very lush and well-maintained.
