The Bogd Khaan Palace Museum is without a doubt a valuable and important place, full of history and treasures. The highlight for me was the impressive collection of the 20 Taras from Zanabazar — truly unique and worth seeing.
However, the overall experience could be improved. I was asked to show my ticket three times, even after already being inside the complex, which felt uncomfortable. The exhibitions also feel a bit old and would benefit from better care and a refresh.
In addition, the museum guided tour was disappointing. The guide rushed through the explanations, speaking English too fast, almost spitting out the words, and showing little passion for what he was saying. This made it hard to connect with the incredible history of the place. First time I asked a free tour guide to please leave because I prefer to read the signs.

The Winter Palace which looks more Western in design and white, was actually created with Russian architecture and design in mind. The Summer Palace, however, had a more Buddhist royal style and structure. One of the large gates was even built with no nails, instead substituting them for complex interlocking wooden joints. The history that is offered up along with the feats for the eyes make this a...
Read moreAbsolutely loved it, the winter palace of kings and queens past is remarkably well preserved but in need of some restoration. The exhibition of the lifestyle of royalty and the collection of art and artifacts inside the palace was well curated. It was 15,000 MNT to enter but no photos allowed after entering the big gates. As you enter you first see the statues and applique Buddhist artworks that are beautiful. After this section the Russian inspired fusion works inside the winter palace are truly wonderful too. I especially enjoyed seeing the exquisite royal garb and jewelry as well as the unique beds, exuberant monk chairs, thrones and the leopard skin ger was well...
