The Tharabha Gate is the only surviving gate of Bagan. The gate is located to the east of the old city. Although the Burmese chronicles assert that the city of Bagan was fortified in 849 CE, radiocarbon dating of evidence dates the foundation of the main walls to c. 1020 CE.

The old east gate is the best remaining part of the city wall that once surrounded Bagan city and was built around 850 A.D.
There's not left of the structure and wall around the gate but the little that's left is still in OK condition and worth a look. The enterance is also decorated on the outside with old gods, which is in good condition.
