Located near Swayambhu, at the foot of the Nagarjun forest in Kathmandu, Single Tree Hill is a teeny tiny hill that offers a splendid panoramic view over the capital city. It is the perfect place to watch the sunrise or sunset.
Not many tourists (nor expats) know about this spot as no travel guidebooks mention it and you won’t find much information in English on internet neither; tourists usually flock to Swayambhu hill to enjoy a panoramic view of Kathmandu. Don’t get me wrong, Swayambhu is one of the greatest places to visit in Kathmandu. But there are other (and better) places when it comes to see the best views over Kathmandu.
It will take a bit of climb to get to the viewpoint. The steep stairs up to the top lead you to the one of the finest views over Kathmandu. The views are stunning, with all of Kathmandu spread out below you and the rolling green hills of Nagarjun on the backdrop. Make sure to head up there for the sunset, especially when the city lights shine at night. It is a very popular spot among local youngsters so don’t be surprised to see many people shooting TikTok videos at the top.
Single Tree Hill is an easy hike from Swayambhu (some people will even tell you that it isn’t a hike at all, just a walk!). It is accessible to anyone (including children!) with a good pair of shoes.
Initially, Single Tree Hill was just that: a single tree atop of a hill. However, now, there is a small shop selling snacks and beverages. There is even a hotel restaurant (Kathmandu Sky View Resort) and two swings (like the famous Bali swing). Since this is a new attraction, be forewarned that there is a long queue for the swings on Saturdays (day off for the locals).
Important Note: Unfortunately, it is very sad to see that some people are still dumping their trash while visiting Single Tree. It is quite disappointing that a spot like this isn’t more preserved by the community or by its visitors. Please keep the nature clean and don’t throw trash. Take all the rubbish with you instead of dropping it in the...
Read moreGood spot for quick trip! The road is a bit winding and it is located at a high elevation, so many people go there by scooter. It's a small view point for Kathmandu city. It was enjoyable to ride a bike, looking at the scenery next to;)The place was crowded when we reached there on weekend day Saturday. There is no proper parking facility here. Please note that there is no entrance and parking to disable and children and old aged friendly. You have to climb steep long length ladder to reach top spot. There are no benches managed to stay. You are to wait on your foot for your turn to swing. There is also no public toilet. You have to go and stay in hotel to wait your turn in the hotel being constructed here. There is barrier steel bars but not seem adequate in terms of safety. Anyone visiting here should concern about safety first by themselves because the management seem busy in making money. Any way the view of kathmandu valley is magnificient. You can see the concrete forest from the height. The sunset view on the other side of the hill is also fabulous and awesomeIt is such a place to spend a day. It is a tourist attraction famous for adventure activities. There is a skywalk which rotates left and right up to 180°. This skywalk really gives you goosebumps and makes you feel very adventurous. There is a swing as well which takes very much upside and leaves you within a fraction of a second and your jaw drops automatically and leaves you screaming. So if you like adventurous activities then do visit this place and you will not regret it. Skywalk will cost you NPR: 500 per person whereas swing will cost NPR: 300 per person and dress will cost NPR: 200 if you want nice photos, especially for ladies. There is one more swing which can be enjoyed...
