We stayed at Lagom Premium Apartments for two nights and, unfortunately, the overall experience despite the good aesthetics was disappointing especially given the positive reviews that led me to choose this place for my birthday stay. • On arrival, the bedsheets were dusty and my girlfriend had an allergic reaction. We didn’t complain at the time since we managed by ventilating the room. • The next morning, there were no lights for a few hours, which delayed my work. Reception later told us there was nearby electrical work. Even when power returned, only partial lighting worked (oddly, only the hairdryer functioned), and the hot shower worked just once. Premium apartments should have inverters for charging higher price. • At checkout, we were stopped and questioned about a bent room card (which was already like that when given to us) and a tiny chip on a glass we hadn’t used. We were initially asked to pay NPR 1,000 but, after discussion, the fine was waived. • On the way home, we received another call saying we would be charged NPR 1,500 for drops of wine stains on the bedsheet. While we accept this was our mistake and we should have been more careful, the fee felt unreasonable for simple cleaning. When I asked for clarification, I was told the items are “premium” and this was a cleaning fee not a replacement. Both these fees rates are not mentioned in the policy which should be shared as per customer right. We paid the NPR 1500 and are waiting for the picture of repaints.
Later, hotel staff clarified privately that the charge was not just for laundry but because the stains required repainting near the bedside, and that their rules allow extra cleaning charges depending on the extent of the mess. While I understand the policy, my concern is the way it was handled: • At checkout, nothing was mentioned about repainting or stains. • The charge came later via multiple phone calls, which caused unnecessary stress, instead of being addressed transparently right at checkout. • Hotels and Airbnbs we’ve stayed in before cover minor issues like a small wine spill as part of normal maintenance cost, but here even basic upkeep seemed to be TRANSFERRED to the customer. If you operate a “premium” hotel, why not factor such maintenance into your costs rather than billing guests after the fact?
This left me questioning why such high “premium” rates are charged for the stay if every small issue is penalized with hefty extra fees. It really overshadowed what was supposed to be a memorable birthday experience.
Overall, I would rate the stay 2.5/5. I hope this was just an unusual case in the property’s history and that management will improve communication, transparency, and responsibility for basic maintenance...
Read moreThis is probably the only place where I’ve found the staff to be extremely courteous—7 star treatment without the snob. For instance, the desk staff and the host both insisted to take our bags up to the room, gave us the briefing on how their sophisticated in-room lighting system worked, and even had a charcuterie board laid out for us to ease into.
During our stay, we had a couple of guests staying over for a few hours. The staff readily presented them with fuzzy room slippers too!
Now, the rooms themselves have a modern boho-chic aesthetic to them, which is exceptionally unique in Kathmandu. The white walls have been kept meticulously clean, and the same goes for the beds, which have a satisfying springiness to them. All appliances and touch points have been painted in matte gold/brass finish that not only gives them that visual flair, but also invites the guest to interact with them. The same consistency has been carried over to their cutlery they had laid out. I’m guilty of leaving my fingerprints all over the place.
Everything has been laboriously thought out with a fussy guest in mind. I’m one of them.
All in all, the most relaxing stay I’ve ever had in a long while.
My only complaint is that the police exhibition grounds nearby were having a function and their drills woke us up a bit too early. I would have loved to be in their bed just a bit longer.
Ps: I broke a wine glass. If the Lagom management are reading this, please...
