The Amsterdamse Bos is a forest southwest of Amsterdam that was planted between 1934 and 1970. The Amsterdamse Bos is a big park and is located almost entirely in the municipality of Amstelveen. Amsterdam is the owner and manager of the forest.
Activities There are many activities in the park. With small children you can go to the Goat Farm (Geitenboederij) or the ‘Boerderij (Farm) Meerzicht (north of the Bosbaan). You can eat well there and see various animals.
Do you want a swimming pool for small children? Then go to 'Klein Kinderbad'. There is also a 'Groot Kinderbad', but this is located in the far west of the park. That one is bigger.
For older children you have the 'Speeleilanden' where you can play with all kinds of climbing bridges etc. around the water. Wonderful to cool off on hot summer days. Here there also many places to have bbq with family or friends.
The park is large enough for a long walk (with dog). Although it is not as beautiful as a real forest, such as the Veluwe. You like sports? There are places with fitness equipment that you can combine nicely with a run.
Also don't forget to go to a theatre performance in the evening in the summer at the 'Amsterdamse Bostheater'. With a picnic basket next to you, enjoy an evening at dusk.
Parking There are approximately 30 public parking lots, both at the entrances and in the Forest itself. For more information, see the website...
Read moreHet Amsterdamse Bos is an absolute treasure and a natural oasis right in the heart of Amsterdam. My visit to this sprawling green wonderland left me utterly enchanted and rejuvenated.
The sheer size and diversity of the Amsterdamse Bos are awe-inspiring. It's a place where urban life seamlessly blends with nature. Whether you're looking to stroll along peaceful pathways, have a picnic with friends, or simply unwind in serene surroundings, this park offers it all.
One of the highlights for me was the pristine waterways that crisscross the park. Renting a paddleboat or canoe and leisurely navigating through the tranquil canals was a delightful experience. The sight of lush trees, vibrant flowers, and an abundance of wildlife, from ducks to deer, makes you forget you're in a bustling city.
The park's thoughtful amenities, including playgrounds, open-air theaters, and even a goat farm, ensure there's something for everyone. The Amsterdamse Bos also hosts various cultural and sporting events, adding a dynamic dimension to its charm.
Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a fitness buff, or simply seeking an escape from the urban hustle and bustle, Het Amsterdamse Bos has it all. It's a testament to Amsterdam's commitment to preserving green spaces, and a visit here is an absolute must. I can't wait to return and explore even more of this beautiful...
Read moreRoom was smaller than we thought it’d be. The room was also dusty and parts of the floor hadn’t been swept. They don’t provide basic things like toilet paper, the washing up liquid was a tiny bottle as you can see in photo, they gave us dishwasher tablets even though there’s no dishwasher. The shower towels were tiny and the 3 shower products were small too. No tea towel for drying up was provided so we bought our own same with the toilet paper and no soap for washing hands was provided either. Lack of activities on site. They have table tennis but you have to bring or buy your own equipment. There is a bus stop outside which we took everyday to the train station or central Amsterdam but if you’re wanting to stay in Amsterdam i wouldn’t suggest staying here as it is quite a way to travel. There’s no oven, microwave (there’s a microwave in the shop on site but we didn’t know until last day) you get all the basic cooking equipment for the hob and cutting board etc. the forest is gorgeous to walk around we saw red squirrels and highland cows. Overall decent place to stay just lacking a few things. The tv is also a smart tv with Netflix, disney plus etc but of course need your own log-in. The shop on site also is very small with hardly anything and as a coeliac there was pasta, Pringles, chocolate chip cookies...
