Chez Favié is located in idyllic surroundings in a secluded section of Amsterdam's Bos, a huge man made forest three times the size of New York's Central Park, making it one of the largest city parks in Europe.

Work on the forest started in the 1930's when unemployment was rife in the Netherlands and its forestation provided work for more than 20,000 unemployed inhabitants of the city.

This delightful coffee house pavilion is a favourite starting and finishing point for those wanting to escape the city for a day out in this unique and impressive forest. Depending on the route taken, it is between 8 and 10 kilometres cycling distance from the city centre and a couple of kilometres more if coming by car.

The pavilion has a large outside terrace surrounded by glass screens making it a perfect spot to come throughout the year for a cup of coffee, glass of beer, or drink of choice. The menu features a good selection of hot and cold sandwiches, homemade soups, fried snacks and the typically Dutch "Uitsmijter", consisting of two slices of bread topped with ham, cheese or bacon and finished off with two fried eggs. All this can be rounded off with chocolate cream truffels, or cake and apple pie with an optional topping of cream, all at very reasonable prices.

Inside Chez Favié, there is a cosy bar and seating area with friendly staff to assist. The pavilion can also be rented for private parties and receptions. It is a nice place to come to for anyone wanting to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and indulge in the...

The name may be French, but there’s nothing French about asking customers to pay for the toilets—especially when they’ve already consumed! It feels like an insult to basic hospitality. Customers are expected to collect their own orders from an outside counter and even then, you’re met with rules that seem petty, like a 50-cent charge for using the bathroom.

There's even a lady in charge of the toilets, and what's nice is that she takes credit cards, so for 50 centimes you can use the toilets and pay by credit card! It’s remarkable that technology has made it here, especially in a restaurant that otherwise feels like it’s stuck in the past.

If you’re looking for a warm and hospitable place to enjoy your coffee or meal, there are plenty of better options. This establishment seems to lack the basics of customer care and respect—skip it and try...

The staff were impatient and blunt throughout the whole ordering process (context: the place was almost empty and we were the only people placing an order). When my son asked for lemonade (which they don’t sell) the response was a blunt “NO. READ THE MENU” rather than taking any time to explain alternatives to him. “What other soft drinks do you have?” “READ THE MENU” Then tried to pay using Apple Pay (they have a payment terminal that clearly accepts card taps) - but “NO PHONES! CASH OR CARD ONLY!”. We were going to order some lunch but at this point I started searching for another cafe. I’ve given them 1 star because they allow dogs (although I’m not sure what happens if a dog can’t read the menu)

Terrible experience. Don’t expect service with a smile… I’ve been there several times and every time I’ve been missing a better customer service but today it was my last time at this place. I asked for a water for my dog as the one outside was just awfully dirty. I was told no. So I bought a bottled water for my dog and asked at least for a paper cup to serve, which I saw on the coffee machine. I was refused stating that the paper cups were exclusively for coffee - just pointing out - I left them €10 for two coffees and the water. This place would be great if it was run by someone who enjoyes that.
