Museum Rijswijk — Attraction in Rijswijk

Went here for the textile biennale of 2023. The theme was 'power'. There are various textile techniques applied to show what power means to the artists. There is embroidery, fashion, carpets and collages.

The diversity of what power means is what drew me. A handkerchief embroidery with the title 'power of dementia' with a person falling into a abyss was very different to the typical thoughts of power like social rights and activities of certain countries.

Should you go to this museum? I would personally check if there is an exposition that you are drawn to because that was the only reason for coming for me personally. The museum isn't big and your experience might vary from the different expostions

Went to see the Beatles exhibit. The photographs were representative of that era and the experimental ones were vibrant examples of artistry. There is a lovely cafe and bookstore and a large garden, though I am not sure it is used as part of the museum. Museum Rijswijk zit in een fraai herenhuis uit circa 1790 in het oude centrum en combineert historische charme met moderne ruimten. Naast de oude gevel is de entree uit 1994 en achter het pand ligt de nieuwbouw uit 2012 met de museumwinkel, aula, het Tollenscafé en twee ruime tentoonstellingszalen. De wisselende exposities zijn toegankelijk en afwisselend en de museumwinkel biedt leuke, vaak originele items om mee naar huis te nemen.

Achter het historische huis ligt een schitterende binnentuin met inheemse planten, twee terrassen en een verzameling historische tuinornamenten, gevelstenen en bouwfragmenten. De tuin loopt af over een zichtbare rest van een strandwal van circa 3.500 v.Chr. en is bijzonder aangenaam om na een tentoonstelling even te zitten.
