So much fun! Loving staff keep the birds happy and their enclosures clean. Interaction is optional and, if you like, ranges from feeding through enclosures, staff-assisted perching of individual birds on your hand, or totally immersive, walk-in aviaries. I had a half dozen birds on me at once! A wonderful visit with these very clever, feathered friends. I always knew parrots and their kin were smart, but after two hours in such close proximity, I came away with a newfound appreciation. The different personalities among individuals of the same species are pronounced. I never got that from a zoo. I highly recommend this for families looking for an experiential opportunity to gain an appreciation and respect for the diversity of life with which we share our only home. The social nature of parrots is easy to observe and relate to, making that connection easy for kids to make in an accessible, interactive way—far easier and more visceral than abstract discussions of ecosystems, the “web of life,” etc.
I’m not a big fan of animal captivity, but the fact that some species here are breeding, and I saw no signs of neurotic behavior, such as birds plucking their own feathers, speaks to the design and caring that goes into the facility. All the birds are in large enough enclosures to fly at least a little bit, and I learned that solitary birds either prefer that, or the owner is actively looking for birds to pair them with.
Finally, all enclosures are labeled with species names, along with some life history and natural range and habitat. Great for education about the diversity of this large family of birds around the world. I would definitely visit again. Each interaction is unique, so each visit is peppered with...

Read moreWow... just sad... Not sure how people think birds should be kept or handled but looking through other reviews of "The Parrot Place" my guess is that people either don't know or worse just don't care... Most birds here are held in rather small cages with only little possibilities to hide. Some birds did not "dance" like i read in other reviews - the were shaking or made a disturbed and atypical impression... There is also a walkable aviary where you can get very close to the birds, however most of them just try to hide from people in a corner. The aviary's squeaking doors and people rumbling through them could be one of the reasons for that... among others. In total a terrible experience. If you really like birds you should not support this so-called "Parrot Place" and rather look for a zoo or proper bird sanctuary - not some sheds in a bird breeders...
