We attended the Te Kūaha o Kaitiakitanga in March. Didn't know what to expect but knew we were bound to see a falcon and a flight display. There were five different birds in viewing aviaries with a bit of information about each one and it felt so special being able to be so close to these birds of prey, while supporting the great work that Wingspan does (I read about it on their website). The flight of the falcon was great to see. The bird they used seemed to be a bit 'shy' as there was a huge crowd that day. Either way, he did great! There were a few other stalls supporting conservation and educating the public about how we can do our part to help these, and other birds, thrive in the wild. Kids loved seeing the birds and the real fruit ice cream. I would definitely go again and recommend to any...
Read moreWe had the most incredible experience at Wingspan which was recommended to us by another local tour guide. Wingspan is a bird rehabilitation facility who run daily shows (weather permitting). The shows are exceptional and showcase the birds, provide insight into their background, injury and rehabilitation and show how the birds are rehabilitated. Wingspan have passionate, talented and informative staff. The two girls were very friendly and helpful and Wingspan even have their very own, in-house David Attenborough - Noel. Noel was incredible and gave a very in depth description of the birds. We could not recommend more highly.
Thank you to a wonderful team of...
Read moreAmazing experience which I thoroughly recommend to every New Zealander! It was extraordinary to see the birds up close and to see them fly. I learned so much and am still buzzing a week later. I am so impressed with the Trust and all the mahi it does. The presentation itself was impressively well organised; very professional yet full of character. The falconers are nearly as interesting as the falcons! I visited during Level 2 restrictions and the Centre's organisation around keeping visitors safe was excellent. I returned home and spent hours on the web learning more about our raptors and look forward to visiting again every time I am...
