Nice uphill walk, pretty solidly uphill and only a couple of benches en-route if you need to take the weight off your feet. Great views out from the top over Lyttleton and the surrounding areas as well as out over Christchurch city. I walked from the Christchurch side up to the peak, you are able to go the entire way through to Lyttleton or the reverse. Took me no more than 45 minutes going up and that's with a few stops along the way. There is a route that follows the pipeline up however that is a lot steeper and not as well formed. The underfoot is fairly stable and I didn't feel that the surface was slpping underfoot on the way down. Would recommend if you have some free time and don't fancy paying the pretty high cost for the gondola. From the top you're able to walk along to the gondola and grab something from the cafe for your hard work.

If you live in Christchurch or just visiting you must do this ! iI is one of the best historical walks over the hill in to Lyttelton. It is tough walk up the hill for those beginners but is worth the view. The view at the top is spectacular on a beautiful day, overlooking Christchurch and Lyttelton. Suggest a toilet stop before you start, there are public toilets at heathcote domain, on porter hills road, Christchurch city side of the hill, before you get to the bridle path car park. The walk takes between 18 - 40 minutes to the top depending on your fitness. Very busy in the weekends and can get very windy at the top but track is sheathed on either side of the hill.

not too tough a walk, possible to go up with kids / families!! about a 45 min -1 hour walk, really nice views from the top!! definitely worth going if you’re looking for a easy hike. connects to loads of other tracks through summit road too!!! if you’re too tired you can take the gondola down

I personally lover this treat! If you're looking for a moderate hike with historical significance and panoramic views, this is definitely one to consider.

The trail itself is well-maintained, though it does involve a steady incline. Expect a mix of paved sections and gravel paths and maybe a bit of grasslands, so good shoes are recommended.

You'll get sweeping vistas of Lyttelton Harbour, the city, and the surrounding hills. It's a fantastic spot for photos, so bring your camera.

Note: Parking can be a bit tricky, especially on weekends, so arriving early is advisable....
