Roto Kohatu Reserve — Attraction in Christchurch

Went there just after new year , with some family with 3 children and kayak. Very crowded and not enough space for parking and road now needs maintenance. People with dogs in the water. This is prohibited in lake Rua but aparentlly many DONT read the rules ,appalling as we witnessed a man with his dog in the water infront of us near children and the dog pooed in the water!!! Best lake I have been to so far has a jetski race part, swimming part, a canoe ball game for all ages, massive walking/biking track, is good for a all day event,birthday,family outing, Christmas, any events really with big crowds. Water does get quite deep for little children, or people that don't know how to swim. No lifeguards, no rubishbins, there are TOLIETS DOWN BY JETSKI PART AND...

Staying at the North south campsite this reserve is about a 10 min walk away. Very nice place to go, paths around the 2 lakes. One lake is for jet skis and the other is for swimming and paddle boards and canoe's, I'm not sure if there's some where to hire the boards but there was some youngsters enjoying themselves...
