The hike was enjoyable accompanied by the stunning scenic. There were couple of issues to address. Firstly, there were some trails that were poorly maintained making it less visible to first comer such as myself. Secondly, the map wasn't as helpful as I'd hoped. I have been lost couple of times walking in circles because the trails were not visible. However, I wasn't in a panic as I don't think it is possible to get "lost lost" as the more obvious trails will lead to some carpark. Therefore, I believe this trail is easy to medium level, perfect for new comer.
The trails should be made more obvious to the eyes using things like flags or something. The map should also be more clear showing the tracks rather than just a blur image of a track; this makes identifying surrounding easier.
I started with "Harry Ell Walkway"(2) then to "Mitchells Track"(8). From the Bowenvale car park, I went with the "Bowenvale Reserve Walk"(10) merges into the "Eastside Bush Track"(5) back to the "Victoria Car Park".
Note:
At (10) merging into (5), that was after a gate, first turn. The trail will be very narrow.
At (8), stop there to enjoy the view. There's a detour that you can get closer to getting a clear view of the crater.
At (5) near the Victoria Park, the description said it was a steep hill. Yes, it was literally just a hill. That wasn't off the footpath just lack flags or indication that that's the...
Read moreGreat place to visit, the walking and box paths are clear and easy to understand we went for a walk with our 4 year old and she loved the nature and the views of christchurch from up high it's not too hard for kids either. There is also a great park that they can go and play at if you not up there for a walk has a nice covered picnic area for the family too to stay cool on hot days. And some nice big trees to sit under also. Definitely would go again. Just nice to get away from the business of town but not too hours away if you cant afford a long trip out of town...
Read moreGood park for walks, cycling, children, relaxing and getting fresh air.
Dog park usually has friendly dogs selling to the your active pooch out. Be careful if the bottom left as there is a swampy part that can turn the whitest dog into a muddy mess. Lots of clear space for soft play.
Paths are very well maintained and can take you off to other view points from the port hills over Christchurch or lyttleton Harbour.
Cycling can take you down through Bowenvale or the Christchurch adventure park.
