A beautiful coastal walk from Milford Beach to Castor Bay Beach along the Beach Road footpath. Bring your kids and the dog - this short stretch of North Shore coastline is perfect for the whole family to explore and get active. Start your walk at Milford Reserve at the northern end of Milford Beach. Milford is a swimming beach with picturesque views to Rangitoto Island. You'll find parking, as well as public toilets and a beach volleyball space. kids of all ages will love the nautical-themed beachfront playground with pirate ship, rope climbing and balance beams. Head over the Wairau Stream Pedestrian Bridge. If you time it right, you might see the bridge lift to let boats pass from the Milford Marina to the Hauraki Gulf. The bridge looks great when lit up at night. After the bridge, turn right and follow Beach Road north for around 500 metres. There are two short walkways from Beach Road with stairs down to Castor Bay: one outside 61A Beach Road and another outside 75 Beach Road. Keep an eye out for the walkway signs as they can be easy to miss - and the walkways can look like private driveways. If you're taking the pram or bike (or if you miss the walkway shortcuts!), avoid the stairs by continuing along Beach Road and turning right down The Esplanade to reach the beach. End your walk at Castor Bay Beach, and enjoy a well-earned swim or picnic underneath the shady trees. Here you'll find another great kids playground, more public toilets and a grassy area to run around...

I really wanted to go down there and it would really enhance the walk. Hopefully, the council will get onto fixing this in the...
Read moreSmall beach in Castor Bay. It has a fairly large playground as well as a nice tree for climbing. There is grassy area around the playground for picnics or just to sit on the grass. It is surrounded on either side by rocks (rockpools during low tide) and if you head north (left) over the rocks it leads to another, longer beach which has a set of stairs that lead up to JF Kennedy Memorial Park. Nice place for a swim,...
