The scenery was spectacular, however the Mitre Peak tour was poorly run. We chose this company because it had good reviews and we got the impression of - small company, smaller number of tourists, personal service. But in reality, this meant, small company small size boats, small number of staff, unsafe service. Mitre Peak does not have its own bus, so it subcontracted out to Go Orange. As Go Orange was running transport service for Mitre Peak tour and other tours, it had a lot of pickups and drop offs to do along the way ex Queenstown - we stopped at 4 different places for pickups and drop offs before we arrived Milford Sound, so the whole coach was very long transfer took 6 hrs, where we arrived exactly at 12:20pm and had to get back on the bus as soon as we dock again, leaving no time to stay even a couple of minutes at the Milford Sound centre to look at Milford Sound intros etc. It was very rushed. Also it was a nice weather day and everyone was out on the deck and as we had a lot of tourists squeezing into a small boat, many people could not have unobstructed views. One or two nicer tourists would come in and out of their seats sometimes and allow others to move in and out taking turns for pictures. But many others thought they own their seats and then complain that your standing at the rail would block their views. The two staff on ship was oblivious to this and not aware of the dangerous incident that had happened either - a lady dropped her cell phone outside the rail on the upper deck and an elderly man jumped over to the outside of the rail to grab the phone, meanwhile with the boat running at full speed and other tourists screaming and no staff noticed! The only good thing was the spectacular scenery and the coach driver from Go Orange. We checked out Go Orange website later and understood we got ripped off by Mitre Peak - Go Orange is a lot cheaper, has its own coach so it runs a seamless service, offers free hot lunch, while we paid more for the tour and paid a lot for the cold sandwich lunch at Mitre Peak. Go Orange also has a great driver who gave good small talks to intro us along the scenic drive, was very responsive for trying to keep up the time, and safe driving. Definitely would NOT recommend anyone to join Mitre Peak. But would recommend giving Go...

We did the Milford Sound cruise with Mitre Peak Cruises, and overall, it was a great experience. The scenery is undeniably stunning – dramatic cliffs, towering peaks, and still, reflective waters. Our guide was fantastic: knowledgeable, passionate, and provided lots of valuable insights about the landscape, wildlife, and history of the area, which really enhanced the journey.

We were lucky with calm weather, but due to limited recent rainfall, we only saw two waterfalls. Still beautiful, just not as dramatic as during wetter times.

One major plus was the smaller boat size and smaller group, which made the cruise feel more personal and peaceful. It was a much better atmosphere compared to the larger, more crowded tour boats we saw out there.

That said, while I truly enjoyed the experience, I didn’t find it quite as jaw-dropping as the hype had led me to believe – perhaps expectations were a little too high.

Still, if you’re going to do a cruise at Milford Sound, I’d definitely recommend Mitre Peak Cruises for a more intimate, informative, and relaxed way to see this iconic...

Milford sound is worth all the hype, i guess its one of the few places that amuses everyone coming to see it. I want to thank mitre cruise for having me on board and allowing me to enjoy the 8th wonder of the world that is milford sound. Mitre cruise is the most economical cruise in milford but that doesn't hinder you from seeing everything that the others do. The boat being smaller than other ls around, you would enjoy the waterfall upclose and under it. I would highly recommend mitre cruise for anyone is looking for an economical ride in milford. You won't be disappointed as you will enjoy all the perks of other big boats minus the breakfast (you stille get complimentary tea/coffee). When we went, there was no problem of sandflies anywhere except where we parked our car but its recommended to have an insect repellant. My only recommendation to mitre cruise will be about the speakers on board as i had trouble understanding some of what the captain was saying (maybe cos i was always standing on the deck). 100% worth the money and 100%...
