Located at the end of Mcleod Road in Te Atatu South on the banks of the Whau Creek, the park is a well maintained, well frequented, and safe place for a visit; great for a stroll around the new path, part of the Te Whau Pathway. You can even get a glimpse of the Skytower if you look hard enough over the Rosebank Rd industrial buildings. It's about a 15-20min drive from the city, if you don't hit the traffic, and unfortunately public transport is limited to a bus drop off on Te Atatu Rd - about 1km up the road. The park offers a basic modular playground for preschool-primary aged kids with ground-level shop counter, ladder, dual slide, and climbing frames. Good for keeping the kids out of mischief when watching or playing baseball or football games at the park. There are 2 public toilets available adjacent to the playground on the road side, usually clean. Quite a way from the main fields however, so go before you're busting. A Council-controlled premier park for sport = irrigated sand carpet grassed fields. Watch out for the sprinklers! Home to the West City Baseball Club in summer (Oct-April) - boasting one of the best facilities in the country with a skinned 90ft and grass 60/70ft diamond - and Waitemata Football (Soccer) Club in winter (May-Sept) with 3 pitches, also running a summer soccer league. Some afternoons you'd think it was a golf course. As a Council-controlled sports surface and playground dogs are prohibited at all times from the fields, and must be on-leash, however this appears to be rarely followed by most dog owners when we have been at the park, with shit all over the show. The soccer club own the club rooms which are available for hire, and while a bit of an eyesore on the park landscape, are a handy place to grab food or drink when games are on, if the Westside shops are too far to go. A public dump station for caravans and motor homes is also located at the park, fenced off from the facilities. Overall, a pretty nice...
Read moreWell today's visit to watch football at McLeod park was a wonderfull uplifting experience, watching the under 10s running around without a care in the world, coaches and parents alike all enjoying the atmosphere. What a contrast to the other Wednesday evening when Central under15s played Waitamata fc under 15s. It was without question a very partisan crowd who seemed intent on making Central feel as unwelcome as possible. There were obviously some parents who didn't fall into the aforementioned trap , unfortunately we will only remember the...
Read moreVery nice big field with lots of space for families to play or have a day out. Has multiple fields and even a playground. Good for training and has a gym on-site with its own opening hours as well. Would take my kids there but would have to stay in one specific area due to the toilet being in one spot. This is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. Other than this, this is a good place to be. Highly recommend to families...
