The New Zealand Police Museum is an excellent institution that offers a unique experience to visitors who are passionate about law enforcement, history, and culture. The museum is located in Porirua New Zealand. It is the oldest and most extensive police museum in the country, highlighting the rich history of New Zealand's police force and its vital role in society. Upon entering the museum, visitors are greeted by friendly staff who provide background information on the museum and its exhibits. The museum is divided into two sections, each showcasing the evolution of policing in New Zealand. The first section presents displays of iconic police uniforms, weapons, and equipment used by the force over the years. A unique feature of this section is the replica of a 1900s police station, which provides an immersive experience of how police officers used to work and live. The second section of the museum explores the broader context of policing in New Zealand, including the force's ongoing efforts to serve its communities, maintain public safety, and protect human rights. Visitors can learn about high-profile criminal cases and the role of the police in dealing with crises and emergencies. This section also houses a collection of artifacts related to New Zealand's indigenous people, the Maori, and their relationship with the police. One of the most interesting exhibits in the museum is the forensic laboratory, which showcases the tools, technologies, and methodologies used by forensic specialists to solve crimes. Visitors can learn about DNA analysis, fingerprinting, and other forensic techniques that have revolutionized criminal investigations over the years. A replica of a crime scene, complete with evidence and markings, provides an immersive experience of what it is like to be a crime scene investigator. An important aspect of the museum is its interactive displays, which allow visitors of all ages to engage in hands-on activities related to policing. Children can dress up in police uniforms, climb into a police car, and play with interactive exhibits that teach them about the work of the police. Adults can experience the various challenges and situations that police officers face in their day-to-day work through virtual reality simulations. Overall, the New Zealand Police Museum is an excellent institution that educates and entertains visitors of all ages. Its exhibits are informative, engaging, and thought-provoking, showcasing the critical role that the police play in maintaining public safety and upholding the law. Its interactive displays make the museum a great destination for families, school groups, and anyone interested in the history of law enforcement in New Zealand.

Went as a homeschooling trip. The presentation and activity was cool, and the museum had some interactive parts which were neat. The photo area, motorbike and fingerprinting were all highlights. Was hoping the museum would talk about the process of becoming a police officer, what different roles there are and what they deal with etc. Had quite a big focus on crime (homemade weapons wall, homicide photos, and specific events etc) which was too intense (I had a 3yo and 5yo there). Luckily my daughter's didn't look at these areas in detail. Reinforced I'd never want to be a cop, but really admire them for the work they do and what they have to deal with

A great little museum with some interesting insights of police work and some of the more high profile crimes over the years. Kids certainly loved the dress up area and riding on a real Police motorbike. Older kids and adults can try and solve mysteries with clues hidden in the exhibits. Entry is free with $5 for a guided tour.

Learned so much more than I expected about the New Zealand Police. Everything is presented in a factual tone--the good and the bad. Very enjoyable visit, and the gift shop has some unique gifts.

Sadly, Aramoana is no longer the deadliest mass murder in recent New Zealand history, so that display will need to be updated. Here's hope that it's the last time that display needs to be updated.

My only suggestion would be to include more information from recently or currently active officers. It would be good to showcase some of the good work...
