A comedy of errors really Arrived at 6 30 at table booked time. To order drinks, no cider available, its on the menu. We checked the drinks menu before booking to make sure there was cider. Ordered bottle of wine, was brought Sav blanc instead of the ordered Pinot Gris. To be fare they did take it back and bring us the correct bottle. Ordered 4 identical meals, Steaks medium rare, they were all well done, only vege offered were chips, we got 3 serves of chips, had to reorder chips for the 4th steak meal. Side vegetables were on the menu so 3 of us ordered sprouts, 2 or 3 sprouts cut in half, with garlic and chopped ham. OK, but really I think some basic vegetable for the price of the meal could have accompanied the dish not just chips. Because there was no sauce with the steaks we ordered aioli to have with the chips, they did not come, until i went to the counter to ask for them. We were not offered desert, and sat for quite sometime after we had finished before table was cleared. So time to bring us a desert menu. We decided we had had enough and went to pay account, asked for it to be split in half, that was agreed, but would not take cash, ok paid with debit card, but for the whole meal for the 4, we said we would sort it, I said we won't be back. The restaurant is very noisy, not sure about the décor either. During the day granted a lovely old home and great views, at night, the place has...
Read moreI rang Gear Eatery to make a booking. The guy that answered said could I please go online to book and then I would be able to get immediate confirmation......If I had any problems he said I could ring him back. I replied with "what would be the point if he couldn't take my booking right now while I was talking to him ". After all he had already been interrupted by my phone call but didn't want to take the booking.?? I did as he said and went online and made the booking, confirmed with the friends that were joining us and looked forward to the next day. On arrival we found we were booked outside in the cold and wind. At no point was it stated we would be outside. It was meant to be raining so I would never have excepted an outside booking. The wind actually blew a glass of water over while we thought about what we were going to do. The waiting staff were great and apologised there was nothing they could do. They were full. There was no way we were going to endure eating outside so we left and dined at another lovely local restaurant inside in the warm. They too were busy with reservations but they made it work for us. So disappointing having driven in from Kapiti where we have several...
Read moreThe view of the whanga looked beautiful, as the rā was settling in over the puke behind Takapuwāhia. The service was good, 7/10, kai was ok 6.5/10. Had ordered the Korean chicken, tofu dumplings, kotakota kūmara, Asian slaw, crispy pork bao and dessert. This was downed with a couple of craft beers and free water. We were having a great time but because we were told to vacate our table (no one else was asked), twenty minutes before our scheduled time things hadn't gone as planned. Thanks a lot as I wasn't able to convey an important message. I'd scoffed down the tiramisu and then we gapped it. I hope you treat those walking into our beautiful homestead better in the future. PS courtesy should be given to ALL your customers regardless of ethnicity. Kihai e kite au koutou anō. (Aroha mai about the māori grammar✍️, still learning.) Edited the day after: To add to matters, I was not happy at all with the upset stomach my girlfriend and I had the following day. I had spent an 'unnecessary portion of time' inside the blinkin' wharepaku🤢. E koretake rawa tēnei...
