I've been a member since it was open and never complained. I think it's a good gym, but recently, one of your front staff, the curly-haired boy with glasses, who's actually a good worker, did something uncomfortable. I had my mom and brother-in-law visiting Auckland for a few months and needed a tour guide of the facility. He opened the door for them, and I entered with my own key. When they started to walk around, because he didn't tell them to wait at the entrance, he asked me: "Are they just going to do the tour themselves?" To which in reply I replied: "It's your job to tell them what to do and not to do. You're the tour guide." After looking at everything downstairs, he told them about the second floor and wanted to bring them up the stairs. My mom is 80 yo, and it was obvious she has knees problem by the way she walks. So I told the boy to use the lift, it was there to support elderly people. He wasn't happy with the whole thing. After the tour, my family decided to join, but your staff still wasn't happy and tried to flip the table by saying that I'm not allowed to be on the floor with slippers, if I'm about to exercise, which I replied, I had exercised in the morning and was here just for them. In return, I told him to tell the same thing to the members that actually wearing slippers and exercising on the floor, as I can see some of them walking upstairs at the same time he warned me. In his defence, he will tell them once he's not busy.
I think you should tell and teach your staff how to be better tour guide and a...
Read moreOn Monday, 18 August 2025, at CityFitness Albany, I was tailgated through the access gate by a man I did not know. When I asked him to leave, he immediately verbally abused me, physically threatened me, and made racist “slanted-eyes” gestures targeting Asians. This was witnessed by staff (including Regan at reception) and captured on CCTV.
I filed a formal complaint. The manager, Julie, told me in writing that this person was “just a guest,” that he was “leaving the country this week,” and that he “would not be back in the gym.”
But on 22 August 2025 (Friday), I personally saw the same individual back in the Albany gym again. This completely contradicts management’s statement. It shows that: • No real action was taken against the offender. • Members were given misleading information. • CityFitness failed to protect its members from racism and threats.
To this day, I have received no apology, no confirmation of a ban, and no credible plan to ensure safety.
⚠️ For a diverse community like Albany with a large Asian population, this is unacceptable. Gyms must be safe and inclusive places for everyone.
✊ I call on all Asian members — and all who value equality — to stand together and say NO to racism. We must hold institutions accountable when they fail...
Read moreLovely place to see what gym equipment looks like because that's all you're really going to get to do. Not necessarily the gym's fault but CONSTANTLY busy, no matter the time of day I'm waiting in line for pretty much every exercise I want to do; machines, dumbbells, bars, doesn't matter, you're going to spend most of your time waiting. Most of the kettle bells are worn so you have no idea what weight you're using if you use those, a lot of the plates are getting there, too. A lot of the equipment is dirty/rusty so when it's actually functioning and not out of order it stains your hands. I also found a couple condoms on the floor in the bathroom once, used or not I don't really care that's pretty disgusting. The parking is abysmal as well. The gym is clearly sized to house a large number of members but the parking lot seems to think it can follow clown car logic, no matter what time I come I can't find a spot. Pretty much guaranteed a negative experience whenever this is the branch I choose, so I simply will not be choosing it again and will happily travel the extra distance to go to any of the others as they're all FAR better maintained and far more accessible...
