These falls are really beautiful, with deep, clear, and relaxing swimming holes at the base and at the top of the falls, so wear your swimsuit when it is summer time! Be prepared, though... the water can be very cold, even in the middle of Summer. The areas around the pools are rocky, and can be a little slippery and rough on your feet, so wear some waterproof shoes or sandals.
The trailhead is only about 1/2 mile from the campground and main store in Piha. You can walk or drive to the trailhead and there is plenty of parking. There are restrooms at the parking area, and a few picnic tables at the parking area, and at the start of the trail. The trail is popular, and does get busy on the weekends and on holidays, so be aware that parking might be limited during those times. The trail is well developed and easy to walk, with only moderate elevation changes. It takes about 25 minutes to walk out to the falls. The loop trail is about 1 mile each way (2 miles total). If you walk the full loop at the end, there are multiple amazing viewpoints to see the falls. Take the time to take the trail to the top of the falls, as the views from there are amazing and it’s a nice place to sit in the small pools to relax. A beautiful place that you must visit and check off your list when you are in Piha or drive out to when you are visiting the...

Read moreWe had a morning to walk to the falls. After going through the wash station, we walked on the tracks to the base of the waterfall. There were a few viewpoints on the way there looking over the waterfall. The bushwalk to the falls is quite nice and relaxing. The base has a pool at the bottom and it was quite crowded. Once there we decided to walk to the top of the falls. The path to the top wasn't too difficult and it ended at the top. There were a few pools at the top which seem quite deep, and you could walk close to the edge to look across the area. It has a really scenic view but it is quite high up so some people may not be comfortable getting to the edge. The rocks weren't too slippery but it would be prudent to be careful particularly when you are close to the water. The walk wasn't very difficult but having water or snacks on hand is handy particularly on hot days. It was a nice round walk going from the falls to...
