Our 2 night stay was a thirty year wedding anniversary gift from our eldest daughter, so Piha wasn't even on my mind. But after my stay at Piha Beachstay I want to go back. It was so lovely, the accommodation perfect along with its surrounds. We had the Nikau room, with the ensuite. There was a shared kitchen, with a beautiful kauri bench and plenty of space to cook, along with a fridge and freezer to store your food and drink in. There is also plenty of seating, both inside and outside. I preferred eating outside, because the back of the stay is lovely. I was also very happy to see the chickens, as I used to have a pet one. They're so adorable. While just around the corner, a gorgeous stream with a bridge hides behind the bush, with a mountain further back that made me think of Hawaii.
The place is close to everything in Piha, so you don't need to use your car until it's time to leave. There is a track a little down the road, which leads to a couple of lookouts. My favourite was the one overlooking Piha beach. Stunning. There are also other tracks close by, like the KiteKite falls one, which is much busier, very much a tourist spot. The beachstay is basically close to everything you want to see in Piha. We walked to the beach itself a few times, having dinner there for our anniversary night.
I'll round my review off now before I continue to waffle on. Just one last thing, the people who run the stay are lovely. 5 stars all the way.
P.S. I love...
Read moreGreat vibe, great space. A nice oasis that is close enough to walk to piha beaches but is also close enough to walk to several nice hikes inland, including one to the very pretty Kitekite falls.|Big kitchen and lounge and lots of outdoor seating and eating space to take advantage of their idyllic private garden.|Geoff is a laid back and unobtrusive host but he's right there if you need anything.||The tips input box is far too short so I'll include my tip here:|Mind if you're driving to Piha from Auckland close to sunset. There's a place about 5-10 minutes East of piha where the road heads directly towards the sun and if the sun is low in the sky, about 1/2 hour before sunset, you come around a corner and can be absolutely blinded due to the low angle of the sun. You can't see anything at all and if you're not expecting it and traveling at speed you must stop dead in your tracks to avoid straying into oncoming traffic or going off the road. And if you're going the other way at this time of day watch for this spot because oncoming traffic could easily veer into your lane with the Sun right...
Read moreLoved it!! We stayed in a dorm since the double rooms were already booked and I really wanted to stay here. It’s in the lonely planet but it’s definitely still a gem! The awesome big kitchen is perfect to cook and we only stayed two nights but cooked two nights in a row. There’s a cute cat as well!
Because we stayed in a dorm it was super easy to meet new people and instantly connected with our roommates. If we ever come back to New Zealand we’d love to stay here and get a few surf classes in. We thought we’d get a few surf classes but we just chilled at the beach. It’s a 15 min walk to the beach but very easy. There’s a track next to the Beachstay which makes it super convenient to explore nature.
It’s very clean in the Beachstay and there are a lot of tips and things to do recommendations. They also have games and puzzles, so you’re never bored. They also have chickens, and daily eggs that you can buy for 1 nzd. The fridges and freezer and shelves are really big and although it was fully booked there was plenty of space to stash...
