Laird Thomson Track — Attraction in Waitākere Ranges

Not a bad track.

Special features of the track is that you end up going twice over a slow moving stream as it curves up a mountain.

Lots of Kauri trees, birds, mushrooms, and rocks that allow for some awesome photo opportunities.

Once you get up the top, it starts to flatten out until you reach a inter-junction, in which you can either head towards Glenesk Road (Right) or head further along a ridge towards another track.

It's not an easy climb as it was a bit slippery and a few rocks...

The Laird Thomson track is closed to access Te Waha point lookout from the north of piha Car Park due to a slip taking out part of the track at the very start of the walk. If you want to go to Te Waha point lookout, park at Rose track trailhead, and that track goes to whites Beach and also links onto Laird Thomson track to Te Waha point lookout. You can still go to see the caves near Laird...

Nice short walk to Te Waha Point with wonderful view. Roughly 20 mins up, 10 mins back. But it’s truly difficult to find the entrance of the track even if you have a map. The entrance is behind a rock among the cliffs, no sign out there, hardly to see. Go further north along the cliffs, pass those caves you can see, to the corner end behind then you are all good...
