On the 4th of September, I went on the trip to Taihape. The noise level overall was consistently around 74 dB. That level was caused by the train itself and the general chatter of the passengers. That’s ok. However, the level spiked at 84-94 dB when the man was speaking over the intercom which was an almost constant commentary during the first 6 hours. Read moreWent on the Big Tararua Day Out to the Tui Brewery today. It was a great trip by steam engine over and diesel engine back. Plenty of volunteers on hand and very helpful. We had paid extra for a meal at Tui Brewery and I thought a tour of the brewery for $45. Certainly not worth it. Food constantly ran out and not enough for all passengers. Staff at Tui seemed to be overwhelmed even though they would have known numbers and time of arrival. There was no tour of the brewery. Disappointed in that part of the day. Would recommend the trip but don't pay extra...
