Playa maderas is one of the most popular beaches in san juan del sur. Mostly known for its amazing waves that attract surfers through all the year. Maderas is a great option to relax, bring your speaker, some beers and forget about everything! There are not a lot of options of bars to choose from, which makes the place a lit bit pricy. Tips: 🚫I do not recommend eating here, the food is expensive and not high quality 💯 Good waves to surf 🍺 Beers are good! I recommend to ask for a Michelada 👍🏼 🚫 Don’t bring your car, the access is terrible, I would rather pay a local taxi which can take you there - taxis are located in San Juan del Sur (avenida Mercado) and are very responsible- it’s not dangerous at all

UPDATE March 19, 2022: Prices for surf lessons have really gone up since I was here last. Still recommend coming here though. The water was a little chilly though! I paid 200 cordobas for a couple chairs and umbrella, which were nice to sit on all day. 2 years ago: Best beach for surfing! I rented a board for $10 and got a surf lesson for $20. I was popping up by the end of the lesson! The instructors were really helpful. We drove there in a sedan and made it ok.

Great beach to watch the surfers and walk along the beach! I went in March during the afternoon and it was extremely windy, to the point where you couldn't enjoy the beach because the wind was blowing all your belongings arounds and sand was getting in your eyes. During periods when the wind died down, I really enjoyed my time here! I took the Casa Oro Hostel shuttle here. The ride was quick & cheap!

We really liked this beach. We've visited several while staying in San Juan del Sur. Like the other beaches, it's chill but still has a bit of a vibe. Good for people watching. It's cool because it's beautiful sand but also interesting rock. Good length too if you like to walk the beach. If you like to surf, you can certainly do it here! There are several places to eat and grab a drink, including one at the far end of the beach that we didn't get to but will check out when we go back. Cool houses/accommodations on the cliffs above, we met one woman who was staying a hostel down the road. Amazing sunset. It was about a 25 min drive from the town of San Juan del Sur. It's not far distance-wise but the paved roads end and the roads get rougher so you drive at a...
