AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Gabby (owner) seems extremely friendly on the surface but is everything but once you dig deeper.
#1 Her restaurant staff told us the credit card reader was broke every time we would go to pay and won’t let you use it unless you make a big fuss and call gaby to complain.
#2 One of the nights she kept a beagle tied to a cable 10ft from our room barking excessively for 8 hours straight. I told Gabby about this and all she had to say was “how was this my fault when I wasn’t there” (seriously?!?!!) I got an idea! how about take some accountability and make sure things are running correctly when you are not there because you are the business owner!
#3 She like to send people to a volcano that’s been closed since April of this year. You would expect an owner that runs a guest house in Nicaragua to be aware of things like this, but if you complain about it she will argue with you and tell you that it’s your fault for not double checking and then say “how was I supposed to know it was closed”? Imagine running multiple guest houses for tourists in Nicaragua and not being aware when a famous volcano is closed for 5 months?
#4 Airport taxis are usually the most expensive taxis you can find, The person she highly recommends (her friend) charges significantly more.
I’m not normally the type of person to complain, But it is extremely disappointing when you go to tell business owner about your horrible experience and they could care less, want to fight on the phone about how nothing is their fault, and take ZERO accountability.
#5 Nicaragua was an amazing, Beautiful place with some of the most wonderful friendliest people I’ve ever met in my life. The only person I met there that did not have this quality was Gabby! The only person I met that wasn’t from the country. She will be great as long as you keep quiet and don’t bring up any problems you’re having, If you do prepare to fight with her.
Her husband seems wonderful, but Gabby herself is one of the worst business owners I’ve ever experienced in my life.
Sorry Gabby, (not really) but maybe you’ll learn from this!

Read moreThis is a very cool place. So relaxing and beautiful with a 2 minute walk to the beach. The hosts Gabby and Manuel are accommodating good people. The little village of Mederas is perfect for anyone and is a charming place full of nature and beauty. We are so glad we stayed in Mederas rather than San Juan Del Sur. San Juan Del Sur is close enough to drive to in 15 minutes and explore but Mederas definitely felt more like home with a peaceful setting. Being within walking distance to the ocean was important to us to enjoy the beach easily throughout the day and watch the sunsets before going back to our place and making dinner. Our room was comfortable and the bathrooms are nice. There are porch areas with tables and chairs. There are also rocking chairs and hammocks on the property that are very cozy. This place has a common kitchen with refrigerator and was a nice convenience. There are a few places on the beach that server food and drinks that we visited as well. There is also a market about a five minute drive away. We stayed for 9 days and loved every minute of it. We surfed everyday and the waves were fun and consistent. We will definitely stay here again and tell more people to do the same. Can’t say enough good things about this place and the...
