Ile Ife!!! The ancestral home of the Yoruba people. History in every corner. One of such outstanding places is the moremi statue of liberty. Acclaimed one of the tallest statues In the world. Every word of the name MOREMI has history in it that I cannot fully describe. It has lots to say about struggle for human freedom, sacrifice, love for humanity, passion, wisdom and power of a woman, and sacrificing oneself to free others. The statue was erected by the ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. Its one of the tourist sites in Ile ifeand you will just love being there. When we approaches the premises, we were warmly welcomed by the chief custodian in charge of the place. He was an elderly man who had history of Moremi and Ileife on his lips. He drew us in with his tales and he was our guide . every inch of wall in there was covered with scruptured art works of the moremi legacy. Gradually he told us the tale of every art work. After walking us through the wall, he led us to one of the guests rooms where tourists and guests are further thrilled with the Moremi story. Afterwards he led us up the climb to have a physical feel of the queen her self. Standing by the statue, you will realise how massive the stricture is. It Isa beautiful works of art with a physical presence. All around, you will enjoy your stay in Ile Ife. The premises was clean and well lit. Before I forget, the lights and wall lamps are locally made with bamboo. You will just love it. Whenever you visit ile Ife in Osun state Nigeria, be sure to visits the Moremi statue. One thing though, the government will need to collaborate with the King, the Ooni of Ife to build commerce around the facility. Trade on Sale and display of cultural items and souvenirs and antiques should be encouraged so that the locals will have a sense of ownership and appreciation. What more need I say...kudos to the king of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi for...

A woman after my heart ❤️ I was glad to visit the site of the Moremi Statue in Ife, I loved being close to her being able to see her, even if it was her statue after she was long gone. She was a Beautiful and Brave Woman in her days. She was wise too and her legend endeared her too me. Legend has it that during her days, people of her village got captured often from the market during the market days by warriors from another village who disguised as jinxes in order to terrify and capture their victims. This practice went on for so long until Moremi got the courage to request for permission to help, she devised to get captured and taken away. Being a beautiful lady earned her a get out of jail card from the king who wanted her for himself, from him she learnt his people’s secret with which she fled and helped her people with. Visit Ife abs got to the Moremi Ajashoro for detailed information about her legend, you won’t be...
Read moreThough Moremi’s statue of liberty does look like New York’s statue of liberty, Moremi might have seemed like the one to carry a torch in reality. While Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty in whose likeness New York’s statue was made, has been depicted holding many things throughout history, Moremi’s figure has always been carrying a torch, as she did in the past. Moremi’s statue of liberty still stands out in that singular motive; the influence of women in African history. And the statue can be found in Ile- Ife osun state. If you are on a visit to ile ife try to see...
