Nestled amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Scandinavian region, Lofoten Norway is a mesmerizing paradise that has stolen my heart. From the moment I set foot on this archipelago, I was instantly captivated by its awe-inspiring landscapes, charming fishing villages, and warm-hearted locals. This review simply cannot do justice to the sheer magnificence of Lofoten Norway, but I'll attempt to highlight some of the outstanding aspects that make it a must-visit destination.
First and foremost, the natural beauty of Lofoten Norway is simply unrivaled. Snow-capped mountains, towering cliffs, fjords kissed by turquoise waters, and pristine white sandy beaches create a picturesque backdrop that seems like it's straight out of a fairy tale. Constantly surrounded by nature's masterpiece, the opportunity to hike, kayak, or even take scenic drives in this heaven on Earth is an experience that words cannot adequately describe.
Aside from its stunning landscapes, Lofoten's fishing villages, such as Henningsvær and Reine, exude a unique charm that instantly transports you back in time. The vibrant houses perched on stilts, clinging to the edges of fjords, are idyllic settings for a leisurely walk or browsing through local shops. You'll find yourself lost in the authenticity and tranquil atmosphere of these communities, with friendly locals eager to share stories of their heritage and way of life.
The culinary scene in Lofoten Norway is another highlight that pleasantly surprised me. The region is renowned for its seafood, where freshly caught delicacies like cod, salmon, and shrimp are expertly prepared. Dining in one of the local restaurants that specialize in seafood is an absolute treat for the taste buds and a testament to Lofoten's commitment to sustainable and ethically sourced ingredients.
Moreover, the locals are exceptionally warm and welcoming. Whether it's striking up a conversation with fishermen returning from their catch, participating in traditional festivities, or engaging in cultural exchanges, the people of Lofoten Norway embody a genuine sense of hospitality that sets this place apart from many tourist destinations.
Lastly, Lofoten Norway is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers. The Arctic Circle's proximity allows for exhilarating activities such as midnight sun hikes, northern lights sightings, and even fishing excursions in the Norwegian Sea. The possibilities are endless, and the experiences gained are truly unforgettable.
In conclusion, Lofoten Norway is a hidden gem that rewards travelers with a one-of-a-kind journey. Read moreI could write a lot about this unique archipelago. That would be both to state the obvious, and repeat what already has been said, a million times over.
Lofoten should be experienced. At least once in a lifetime. Be prepared for all kinds of weather. But it's beauty is not diminished by any weather. Except perhaps if violently brutal to the point you have to stay indoors. During winter, even if that too will present another aspect of this fantastic gift to mankind.
My little story in images begins with the ferry from Bodø to Moskenes, close to Å and where the road ends. Then a few pics along the road. Plus a few non-road side.
When I write this a few years have passed. In an increasingly more turbulent world, and increasingly more polarized political climate, Lofoten may become my escape this year.
But I'll let you who see these pictures, judge for yourself. Want to get away from all sorts of noise? Find some tranquillity? Breathe fresh air? Maybe do a little more than leg stretching?
Try Lofoten. Go there and be mesmerized. Nice people, great seafood and vistas wherever you turn your head.

Read moreLofoten Islands completely exceeded our expectations—five days felt far too short to take in everything this magical place has to offer. We explored a variety of locations, each with its own unique charm and beauty. Starting in Svolvær, we hiked up to Djevelporten, where the views over the town and fjords were absolutely stunning. The Sherpa steps made the climb manageable, though a bit steep, but totally worth it for the scenery.
We also visited Henningsvær and its famous football field, which sits right by the ocean with a backdrop of small islands and dramatic mountain peaks. The town itself was cozy and full of character. Eggum offered a peaceful coastal walk with wide views of the sea and sky, while Haukland and Uttakleiv beaches gave us some of the most beautiful sunsets we’ve ever seen—plus, we even spotted whales in the distance!
We hiked to Kvalvika Beach, a hidden gem surrounded by cliffs and soft sand. Though we didn’t camp, it’s on our list for next time. We also did the Hanen hike, along with several shorter trails in the area.
Every place was a mix of adventure and serenity. Lofoten is unforgettable—absolutely worth the...
