Elixir Zoo offers a better wildlife experience compared to Karachi Zoo, making it a suitable destination to visit with children. However, several aspects require improvement. The entry fee for adults and children is 400 PKR, while children under one year enter for free. This fee seems excessive, especially for children, given the subpar experience. The staff's behavior, particularly towards children, is disappointing. In a place designed for kids, staff should adopt a polite and friendly tone, especially in front of parents. Poor treatment of children could escalate tensions, which is avoidable with proper training.
Flamingos, Geese, Ducks, and Turtles right after entering, are enjoyable to watch, but cleanliness is below standard. Rating: 2/5.
Reptile Section is overly congested and has an unpleasant odor, suggesting negligence in cleanliness. It feels like even the staff avoid this section due to fear or some other reason better known to them.
Fish Pond has some beautiful fish, but the water is filthy, with floating trash. It seems the management doesn’t prioritize its maintenance, which diminishes the experience.
Swings and Slides - The play area is age-specific, which may be acceptable under supervision. However, the swings and slides are not cleaned regularly, raising safety and hygiene concerns for children.
In Animal area the viewing experience is hindered by unnecessary barriers that prevent closer interaction, even with fences already in place. Guards enforce these restrictions harshly, often yelling at children, which is uncalled for in a family-friendly environment. The staff’s approach lacks patience and understanding, creating a negative atmosphere for visitors.
Cafeteria is the privately-run cafeteria provides mediocre service and food quality. A slight upgrade in offerings and service would greatly enhance the visitor experience. (Third party I believe but still an un pleasant experience in The Zoo)
Dog Section was one of the most heartbreaking aspects with the condition of the dogs. One dog, clearly distressed and barking constantly, looked like suffering from depression. Animals should be treated with compassion, not as mere exhibits for monetary gain. This poor treatment reflects a lack of awareness and empathy towards animal welfare.
The museum is congested, dusty, and seemingly never cleaned. This neglect undermines its educational potential and adds to the overall sense of mismanagement. Despite charging 400 PKR per visitor, the zoo’s management appears to neglect cleanliness and animal welfare. With better upkeep and attention to these issues, the zoo could provide a much-improved experience. Overall I would rate Elixir Zoo 3/5 based on my experience. While it offers some good moments, the lack of cleanliness, poor staff behavior, and neglect towards animals overshadow the positives. Had higher expectations for this place. I hope management will look into the issues to make it a better experience for visitors....
Read moreToday, I visited Exilir Zoo Karachi, located in North Nazimabad, and honestly, it was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at any zoo. Everything about it felt like a scam. The ticket prices are ridiculously high for what they offer — completely overpriced. And to make things worse, they even charge a ticket for a 1-year-old baby! That’s just outrageous.
Now let’s talk about the zoo itself — if you can even call it that. The animals looked miserable, weak, and uncared for. Most of them were either hiding or lying motionless, clearly not in good health. The enclosures were dirty, small, and showed zero signs of proper maintenance. It felt more like a depressing animal prison than a family-friendly zoo.
In comparison, Bahria Town Zoo is miles ahead. It’s well-maintained, clean, and the animals there seem active and healthy. The whole experience at Bahria Town Zoo is actually worth your time and money — fun, educational, and enjoyable for families. I’m writing this post so no one else ends up wasting their time and money like I did. Save yourself the disappointment — skip Exilir Zoo and head to Bahria Town instead. Exilir Zoo is nothing but a money grab...
