Ancon Hill — Attraction in Ancón

Ancon Hill is cool and all, but I honestly think the view is better from the peak of the Metropolitan Park. That is more of a real hike though, whereas a lot of people seem to just taxi or Uber up to the top parking area here, which is most of the way up the hill. There's not much to see or read at that point, but if you start much lower, you can see the Canal Administrator's house (a cool old colonial style) and see the monument to the Flag Day student uprising. This is a bit trickier though, and I definitely did it a bad way I would caution everyone against. I tried to come by bus and had to cross through a really bad area to get up the hill, which is surrounded by many bad areas. I think the way to do it would be to go to Pueblito, which is a recreation of a folk village. There is a direct path from that attraction up to Ancon Hill, and that's much more of a real hike. This hill has it all and it’s free. We got there after visiting Miraflores locks and entered from Mi Pueblito where you can have a lovely excursion for $3 plus tip. Immediately after leaving Mi Pueblito we saw a bunch of beautiful frogs (it drizzled a little while we were in Mi Pueblito), then we entered the territory of the hill, it’s free but you need to register with a security guard, and we saw the agouties, two sloths, more frogs and some interesting insects and birds on our way to the top. It was a pleasant hike and at the very top we got our reward: a fantastic view of different parts of the city and the canal with the locks. We were there just in time for the ships to go through and we just sat there watching the ships (time lapse on my phone really helped because they move too slowly for a human eye to catch up from afar). Muy bonito. Solo para que estén anuentes se tienen que estacionar en mi pueblito y pagar un boleto de $3 para extranjeros y $ 1 para nacionales, niños menores de 5 años entran gratis. Son aproximadamente 25 a 30 minutos subir el Cerro Ancon y llegar hasta la bandera. Reitero el paso vehicular está prohibido, hay una garita de seguridad militar Panameña que te va a regresar y ni se te ocurra pasar las vallas de seguridad porque sale un policía militar. Si tienes niños menores de 6 años recomiendo no llevarlos a menos que vallan con mucha calma y paciencia, si están dispuestos a cargarlos es bueno su opción pero de igual manera no le recomiendo porque te cansas y te puedes desmayar. No hay equipo de emergencia, tomen precaución llevando agua porque tampoco hay fuentes de agua en la vía solo bancas de descanso. Como dije no recomiendo llevar niños menores de 6 años tanto por la subida como por el clima húmedo y caliente. Lo de mas muy bonito. Me gustaría que mejorara en el sentido de que pusieran un trenecito así sea que haya que pagar.

Very beautiful. Just for your information you will have to park in Mi Pueblito and pay a ticket of $3 for foreigners and $ 1 for nationals, children under 5 years old enter for free. It's approximately 25 to 30 minutes up Cerro Ancon and get to the flag. I repeat vehicular passage is prohibited, there is a Panamanian military security guard that will return to you and don't even think about passing the security fences because a military policeman comes out. If you have children under 6 years old, I recommend not taking them unless you go very calmly and patiently, if you are willing to carry them, us your option but in the same way I do not recommend it because you get tired and you can faint. There is no emergency team, take caution carrying water because there are no water fountains on the road either, only rest benches. As I said, I do not recommend taking children under 6 years old both because of the climb and because of the humid and hot weather. Once climb you will be able to see the flag however will see behind a security fence, the view is beatifull. I would like it the goverment improve in the sense that they put a little train even if you have to pay.
