Get off at this station if you want to walk to Old Town. This is our second trip to Panama and we use to take taxis to Old Town. Never again. The Metro costs us 35 cents per person and it's quick and fast.
When we arrive here we head toward the raised expressway and then turn left towards Central Avenue. It's the road that is full of stores. If you keep walking this way you will eventually hit Old Town.
Along the walk you will find some American treats like McDonalds, Wendy's, Dominos and KFC but we eat with the locals. At the end of this street you will see the Cafe Coca Cola. This is our local jam. Great local food has been served here for over 143 years. Teddy Roosevelt even ate here and he's a rough rider.
Please don't let people scare you about walking here. It's not bad at all. Just don't go here at midnight. Come in the day time. The stores are amazing. The clothes shopping is incredible. You won't believe the deals. So get out there and enjoy the Metro. It's the way to get...
Read moreThe metro in Panama City is super easy. Don't even bother buying a card if you're not a local. Either scan your physical credit card, or use Google wallet. Go to the right turnstile and you'll see the mastercard/visa logo. That's where you scan, right on the logo. American Express is not accepted. It's 35 cents per trip, no matter how many stops you make. It's usually hot in the station, but the train is cool. Trains come every 5 minutes or less. Note that you also have to scan your card when exiting. It doesn't charge you twice, but it's required. Same drill...go to the far right turnstile with the Mastercard/Visa logo. Note about Cinco de Mayo station: There's also stairs going down to the bus station so don't get the 2 confused. The subway is one block further. Bonus: If you use the Cince de Mayo station, you get to walk through all the markets getting there. Support the...
Read moreMetro station close to bus station. You can get off here and walk down Avenue Central to get to eventually reach Casco Viejo. The avenue is full of local shops and can feel intimidating walkjng down but not too bad walking during the day but I wouldn't advise walking at night. Keep walking straight down till you get to the coca cola cafe and then you're in Casco Viejo. Saves money on taxis as the metro only...
