I recently embarked on a breathtaking horseback ride to the Temple of the Moon, and it was an experience that left me in awe. The journey itself was as enchanting as the destination, with the majestic Andean scenery unfolding before my eyes.
The Temple of the Moon stands as a testament to the rich history and spirituality of Cusco. Nestled amidst the mountains, the temple offers a serene and mystical atmosphere that captivates the soul. Riding out to it on horseback added an extra layer of adventure and excitement.
The panoramic views of Cusco from the temple are nothing short of spectacular. The ancient ruins against the backdrop of the Andes create a scene that feels like a journey back in time. It's a photographer's paradise, with every angle providing a postcard-worthy shot.
I highly recommend the Temple of the Moon to anyone visiting Cusco. Whether you're a history enthusiast, nature lover, or simply seeking a unique adventure, this sacred site is a must-visit. Riding to the temple on horseback only heightened the magic of the journey, making it an unforgettable memory that will stay...
Read moreThe area around the temple is very nice and definitely worth visiting. However, I had a very bad experience with the horse tour offered there.
I was approached at the Cristo Blanco viewpoint and offered a horse ride. From there, they took me to a ranch located near the Sacsayhuamán sign, where a man named Juvenal handled the horses. During the ride toward Templo de la Luna, Juvenal took most of the horses to rent them to other tourists who paid more, leaving us completely alone and stranded in the cold for almost an hour as it was getting dark — in an area that is known for not being safe at night. When he finally returned, he acted as if nothing had happened. Although he eventually refunded most of the money and covered the cost of a taxi back, this only happened after a long argument, and the experience itself was still very unpleasant, stressful, and felt unsafe.
I highly recommend asking who is responsible before accepting a horse tour offer at Cristo Blanco, and avoiding any tours involving Juvenal or his relatives. Safety and professionalism should...
Read moreThe Temple of the Moon (Templo de la Luna) in the hills above Cusco is an interesting place to visit. Because there is a large field it attracts locals much like any park might. When we arrived there was a group doing some sort of dance aerobics with reggaeton blasting from a boom box, and several people playing football or engaging in sack races. The temple is a rocky mound with some typical Incan stone work, either walls or cuts into the mound to create stair-like stages. The main attraction though are the caves on the far side said to align perfectly with the moon rise on the solstice, allowing moonlight to reach an alter stone purportedly used to...
