The Museo Cao at the Complejo arqueológico El Brujo in the Chicama Valley northwest of Trujillo showcases vestiges of the Moche or Mochica culture which dominated northern Perú from 100 to 700 AD. The highlight is a tattooed mummy called the Dama de los Tatuajes or Señora de Cao from 450 AD. The museum has seven rooms that display artifacts such as a wooden statue adorned with gold found in Huaca Cao Viejo and is from the Intermediate period of Moche culture (200-600 AD). The Museo Cao displays many copper and golden funerary goods associated with the ruling hierarchy of Moche society.

The museum is new and nicely curated, with even English descriptions. Artefacts of the time of lady cao and those excavated from the site was presented. Lady cao was also displayed, but in a reflection to show respect (no photo allowed for that treasure room). She was amazingly preserved and provided a lot of information for us to study and understand. Definitely visit before going to the site itself. It is quite far from city so definitely consider hiring drivers and guides.

Our great friend Francisco from huanchaco brought us to visit this powerful, magnificent, Peruvian treasure. The interesting fact is that in the future, I can go back because they are far from finished digging it out. There is so much history to be unvailed yet. A must-see on the coast. Also, we passed through a sugar field farm to get there, and it added to the adventure.
