Not the first church in Ilocos Norte, but the St. Nicholas one. It’s near the sinking bell tower due to the new elevated road. Unfortunately the original Vigan brick tiles, which adds to it’s Ilocano identity and are acoustically effective, were changed into Romblon marbles. Echoes distract solemn masses and homilies.
Just across the Sinking Bell Tower, this church, which may not be the first in Laoag City but still as vital to the community's faith, serves its purpose and bring solemnity to both the locals and religious tourists. It's noteworthy that it has a time capsule buried within its vicinity which will be opened by 2061.
Feeling blessed to have been able to hear mass in this landmark church. It's also in the middle of the city so it's easy to get to. The 500 plus year old sinking bell tower is just a stone's throw away too.
Been visiting the Cathedral almost everyday now since I started working nearby. Amazing view of the Sinking Belltower and lots of food places around. More importantly, a solemn place of prayer for everyone.
