Museo ni Dr. Pio Valenzuela is a museum in Valenzuela, Metro Manila, Philippines.
Let's delve into its fascinating history:
Dr. Pio Valenzuela: Dr. Pio Valenzuela was a Katipunero during the Philippine Revolution. Alongside Andres Bonifacio and Emilio Jacinto, he was one of the three highest leaders of the Katipunan.
After retiring from public office, Dr. Valenzuela built a house in Polo, Bulacan (now Valenzuela) where he continued practicing medicine. This house, constructed in the 1920s in the bahay-na-bato style, had an azotea and a clinic on the ground floor where he treated patients.
Unfortunately, the original pre-war house was burned down by the Japanese in 1945. A more modest house was rebuilt after the war and was inhabited by family members after Dr. Pio Valenzuela's death in 1956.
The post-war Pio Valenzuela House faced a unique challenge: it was perennially submerged in floodwaters due to street elevation changes and tidal floods. This caused severe deterioration, especially to the ground floor.
The Museum Project: Initially, the heirs of Dr. Valenzuela wished to restore the existing post-war house and convert it into a museum. However, there were insufficient funds for this endeavor.
Eventually, the Valenzuela City LGU stepped in to provide the budget for the project, honoring the revolutionary doctor and civic leader.
The decision was made to rebuild the house as it was in the 1920s, representing Dr. Pio Valenzuela's active period as governor and doctor. The National Historical Commission granted clearance for this approach.
The Museo ni Dr. Pio Valenzuela: The reconstructed museum, located at Barangay Pariancillo Villa, was formally opened to the public on February 14, 2023.
During the inauguration, the historical marker was unveiled and formally turned over by the NHCP to the city government.
This museum celebrates Dr. Valenzuela's heroism during the revolt against the Spaniards' era of colonialism, as he fought for the freedom of the Philippines.
