I’ve visited Baluarte Zoo a few times over the years, and while I’ve always appreciated its charm and the variety of animals, I wanted to share some honest feedback now that they’ve started charging an entrance fee. First, the good stuff: the zoo remains a fun and educational destination, especially for families and kids. Seeing animals like camels, ostriches, tigers, and deer up close is always a treat, and the Butterfly Garden and Safari Gallery are still beautiful highlights. The taxidermy museum is also an interesting stop—although not for everyone, it adds something unique to the experience. I understand why they’ve started charging an entrance fee. Maintaining a facility like this costs money, and I do hope that the additional income goes toward better care for the animals and general upkeep. That said, I think Baluarte is at a crossroads: now that visitors are paying, expectations naturally rise. Some areas, especially the animal enclosures, need more love. A few spots looked a bit worn out, and the signage could be improved—more educational info about the animals would be a great touch. Also, with the recent concerns around animal welfare (which I hope they seriously addressed), it’s important they remain transparent and show that they’re committed to ethical treatment and proper care of all animals. That said, I’m rooting for Baluarte. It’s a special place in Vigan, and with continued improvements, staff training, and facility upgrades, I think it can evolve into a truly top-tier zoo and conservation spot. Suggestions for improvement: Improve animal enclosures and provide more shade and enrichment activities Add more informative signage and fun facts about the animals Make the shuttle or package pricing clearer at the gate Host guided tours or short educational shows to enhance the value of the visit Overall, still a great stop when visiting Ilocos, but hoping to see continued improvements in the coming years—especially now that we’re all pitching in with entrance fees.

Baluarte Resort and Mini Zoo is located in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. This place was established in 1991 by a local politician. Initially, Baluarte was used as a place to showcase stuffed animals. Afterwards, Baluarte was turned into a zoo to showcase animals from various parts of the zoo. What is impressive about this zoo is that there is no entrance fee. You can, however, pay minimal fee per person to avail the shuttle ride. The shuttle makes it easier to explore this massive facility. There are a lot of interactive activities that can be done, including camel, ostrich and giraffe feeding. You can also take photos together with a tiger and lion (unfortunately, the lion was not available for photos during our visit). There is also a mid-rise building which used to be the rest house of the owner. This was turned into a hotel for VIP guests. There is another hotel inside the facility which can be booked for overnight stays. There is also an animal show that features several animals that can be found in the facility, including a puma and pig. The main attraction is the Safari Gallery, a museum of stuffed animals which purportedly was killed by the owner during his hunts. The stuffed animals are local species, and species from other countries. This includes an elephant, hippopotamus, several type of bears and deeds, wild cats, and other animals. As of 2022, Baluarte is still being improved through development of other structures. There appears

came here in the weekend and it was packed with people. the queue to buy tickets was long! but for some reason i had the privilege to buy the ticket without lining up, probbly because i had a government tourist guide with me and i was a solo goer. the area is huge so if you want to come here, i would suggest buying the package with shuttle so that you can tour around without having to take millions of steps. either way, dont forget to bring your hats, sunglasses and put on some sunscreen bc its hot HOT and there is very few shades around the area. also, the CR that time was under construction so i had to use the restrooms outside their premise 🫠 very few animals in sight and if there are some in the wild, they look to be not properly taken care of. saw some deers near the giraffe activity and they were eating their own feces 🥲 they were probbly so hungry and had to resort to eating it bc they were fed nothing. very few staffs managing people as well. you'd probbly get lost since you don't get told what happens. i was just thankful that a local guided me at the start of the shuttle trip. i got to tour almost the whole place in about an hour or less. it was a quick jump from shuttle stops bc i was not really feeling the place (im sorry). has a safari gallery which made my tummy turn! will have a separate review for that on its specific location here on google maps. its an experience but i will not come back and will not recommend to friends.

DO NOT COME HERE! I went here with my family in January 2023 as part of our north Luzon road trip. My father loves lions and my sister collects tiger plushies. The entry process was very intuitive. The prices for each trip package were clearly laid out and the ticket purchasing was a breeze. At first, we actually liked the tour. We got to feed ostriches and giraffes, and my family got to see their favorite animals. The tour took a sour turn, however, when we were brought to a gallery building that looked like a temple where Singson housed his taxidermied trophy animals. As soon as we entered the building we were greeted with a picture of Singson in the form of a centaur! There were several other portraits that sought to exude his macho and bravado. Pictures of Singson beside grounded animals littered the gallery. Disguised as a haven for foreign and local rare animals, Baluarte is rather a testament to the owner's greed, and narcissism. Spare your hard-earned cash for someplace more worthwhile, like the La paz sand dunes up north, local cafes along Calle crisologo, or trips to the beach with your loved ones. Just please avoid this place. I highly discourage people-whether they be singles, couples, friends, or families- from coming to Baluarte.

One of the worst travel Experiences I had. They have a two class System VIP und regular guests. The regular guests wait more than half an hour in the heat, while they see how the VIPs are treated. Maybe not a good message to those who paid 250 per person. We came with 12 pax, which was quite an effort for Filipino prices. Conditions for animals are cruel because too small cages, especially the giraffes, who have a very large habitat in wildlife. Also the contrast between things which can make money, such as hotel, feeding of animals are kept at first view in perfect condition. The second view shows different sides. The money seems not to be too short, as the owner has built huge mansions in different parts of the zoo. Also the most weird contrast is, that the owner is a hunter who shows off his trophy in a kind of museum, while nursing them in his own zoo. For us that was very paradox. Or is this whole thing a relax redemption model? Just assuming... We will never come again and cannot recommend it at all. Go to coron to cauilit Island to have a more unique experience! If you still want to go there, bring a dust mask, as the threads are very dusty.

It's a nice place to visit especially with kids to enjoy animals that some are tames and could safely fed and pat them like Ostrich,Camels,Giraffe and lots of deers along the road. Again,it's a lovely hot days, lots of visitors and you have two options to tour, one P300/head and P150 semi-tour,we chose the P300/head to maximize our stay since we are there already might as well enjoy the whole areas. You could end up really thirsty during the tour but don't worry at some place to stop there will be a store to buy something to eat and drink. They have a hotel as well if you decide to stay there for a couple of days, I don't know how much per night but it seems nice to do a night tour if the weather during the days is too much for you. Overall,it was a good tour and my niece and nephew loved the Giraffe experience and also the White Lion,King, how I wish I could hug him without devouring me!!!😂 Staff are friendly and helpful if you need assistance, thank you so much for keeping the place safe and organized. Kudos to Mr Chavit, hope he likes our picture taking!! 😊
