We visited here today and were really disappointed. We accidentally booked a tour in Portuguese (it wasn’t clear in the website, but nonetheless totally our fault). When we asked the tour guide about a tour in English, she deeply rolled her eyes and said such a thing doesn’t exist. She then showed a video and we asked for English subtitles, which she put on, but very begrudgingly (it involved pushing one button on an iPad). Luckily, my partner speaks PT and tried to quietly translate for me the rest of the tour - once again, the guide immediately stopped and asked us to stop translating, even though other guests were constantly interrupting her. Let me be clear- we came to Portugal, and understand that not everyone speaks English. However, the reaction we received when inquiring about an English option was very, very inhospitable. This is a major tourist attraction; we did not knock on a stranger’s door demanding they speak our language. There are so many options in this region… we highly suggest picking...
Read moreTerrible experience! (June 2024) BE AWARE they use false advertisement in the website and they DON’T sell the Pera Manca Tinto here even if you do the tour and tasting. It was the worst tour/tasting in Portugal and had so far. A lot of wines and all olive oils out of stock. The guide in really unfortunate way suggest us to go to a El Corte ingles to buy products they didn’t have at Cartuxa. Tour consisted in a quick explanation of the Quinta and a video you can find at YouTube, it was a shame.
Also, BE AWARE if you live in the US, they sell the wines here more expensive than buying in the US, 100% tourist trap.
I want to congratulate Cartuxa crew for losing a fan, because I came to this tour excited by their advertisement and for wines I tasted before, and I left the Quinta with the feeling they trick tourists to come here to sell wines more expensive than outside of the county and with a pathetic and...
Read moreA wonderful place to visit on a tour of Portugal. A family friend who lives on the coast highly recommended it as a must visit destination, it didn't disappoint. We tasted a number of wines and at the end bought 30 bottles. I was disappointed to have been driving as I was enjoying the wine but it is a beautiful venue and it was great to sit outside with a wonderful view sipping a few wines. There is the opportunity to taste at 5 euros a glass and we tried 5 wines but were not charged for the tasting as we bought some wine. My favourite was Cartuxa DOC Alentejo – Évora red for around 19 euros. We also bought some EA and Monte de Pinheiros (white) which are cheaper but...
