Where would you visit first? 🥧🍷🇵🇹 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 & 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐥 🇵🇹 The last travel of 2022 was an epic 2 weeks road trip across Portugal in December and it stole a piece of my heart! Portugal was long planned for fall in 2020 but as you all know, it had to be cancelled like most other trips of that year! Fast forward to winter 2022, when we could finally reschedule our vacation and oh boy.. it was the best decision for our holidays! 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥? ✦ Portugal experiences a Mediterranean climate which is why it generally has mild to warm winters. ✦ The average high temperature rises up to 15-18°C (59-65F) during the daytime. While in Algarve we were blessed with 24°C (75F) warm sunny days that it felt like summer! ✦ Enjoying all the epic places with little to no tourists even at mid day felt AMAZING! ✦ The country also decks up so well for the Christmas holiday & New year that you are never missing out all the festive spirits! ✦ Portugal is a budget friendly country to visit but during winter season you can avail even cheaper accommodations & attractions! ✦ During winter season, the north of Portugal tends to be a bit colder and wetter than the south! But throughout our 2 weeks time, it only rained one afternoon in Braga that affected a bit of the sightseeing! Have you been to Portugal? If not, is this in your bucket list?✈️ 𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐃 📍Praia dos Estudantes, Lagos 📍Chapel of Souls, Porto 📍Pena’s Nacional Palace, Sintra 📍Praia de Marinha, Algarve 📍Bica Elevator, Lisbon 📍Bom Jesus Do Monte, Braga 📍Costa Nova do Prado 📍Santuario de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Follow @globetrottingsu for more travel tips, itineraries and adventure✨. . . . . . . . #algarve #algarveportugal #sintra #visitportugal #lisboa #VisitLisbon #beautifuldestinations #lisbonlovers #portugal #porto #newyorktravelblogger #traveltheworld #travelreels #travelobsessed

🏴Bon Jesus de Monte is an absolute treasure that should not be missed when you're in the North of Portugal. To get there, I highly recommend taking the bus from Braga city center, as it's a convenient way to arrive. The fact that it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2017 speaks volumes about its significance. The journey begins with a spectacular flight of stairs that serves as a grand entrance to this majestic religious site. As you ascend, the sense of wonder and peace gradually envelops you. Upon reaching the top, the view is nothing short of breathtaking. The vantage point offers panoramic vistas that are sure to leave an indelible mark on your memory. What truly stood out to me was the serene and charming ambiance of Bon Jesus de Monte. It's a place where one can truly escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and find solace in its beauty. During my visit, I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of crowds, which allowed for a more intimate and personal experience. In summary, Bon Jesus de Monte is an enchanting destination that seamlessly combines religious significance, architectural splendor, and natural beauty. Its UNESCO status is well-deserved, and I can confidently say that this site is a must-visit for anyone exploring the North of Portugal.

Damn amazing trip to this beautiful place. Admission is free, only the ride on the cogwheel train has to be paid for (2 euros per trip, 3 euros for the return trip). I really recommend this place, it's THE highlight in Braga. By bus to the valley station. I walked all the way - my god it was hard in this temperature. There is a hotel next to the church. I think I'll book it for a day or two next time. If you hike the path down, can you taking great photos of the stairs and the chruch Santuario do Bom Jesus do Monte monuments The Bom Jesus do Monte sanctuary can be reached either on foot, by car or by cog railway, an amazing feat of 19th-century engineering. The railway was the first of its kind in Portugal and was built in 1882. Even today, it overcomes the 300 meters in altitude in just 3 minutes with the help of hydropower. The church was built later (1784) to a design by Carlos Amarante, who opted for the neoclassical style of Italian inspiration. #braga #bomjesus #portugal🇵🇹 #beautylandscape #mirrorselfie #hydropower #cogwheeltrain #church #cave #lake #travelphotography #holiday #hiking #hotdays☀️ #travelbuddy #pov

Bom Jesus do Monte, definitely the highlight of our Braga trip. Like your parents always tell you. Go to the washroom before you leave the station. You have to pay at the station or at Bom Jesus. We took the 20 minute bus ride from the station. Taking the number 2 bus that leaves (every 30 minutes) from the far left as you exit the station. You can buy your fare from the transit wicket in the station and have your fare loaded to a card at a discount. Return the card when you are done to get 1 Euro back per card! Keep your eyes peeled for curiosities as you head up, like the Braga sign and the historical district. There is a lovely shopping area if that is more your thing. You can ride a tram to the cathedral or if you are into stairs, take the path near the park entrance to the stairs. There are a lot of them and it is fairly shady on the approach, take the right stairs once you reach the mezzanine as that is shady. Some people, run the stairs for a workout. At the top you will find pay washrooms and refreshments.

Absolutely awe-inspiring! This alone makes Braga a destination worth exploring. If you're relying on public transportation, here are some handy pointers: If your journey kicks off from the train station, catching Bus #2 will smoothly guide you straight to the funicular station. As for me, I hopped onto Bus #88 from the city center to reach the pinnacle of Bom Jesus (remember to step off at Est Bom Jesus Castelos - you'll spot the name on the wall). By choosing this route, you not only skip the funicular and save a few euros but also sidestep the stair climb, which can be quite challenging, especially in Braga's warm weather. And yes, there are even more stairs after the main flight! Personally, I discovered this to be a savvy choice if you're up for skipping the funicular experience. Wishing you a fantastic time soaking in the view!

Such an enchanted location. Very romantic for couples and adventurous for families. Bring comfortable shoes because you will be walking and seeing so much, come completely comfortable. The entrance is a large park that greats you with a pond that you can take a boat ride in a little romantic touch, then onto the actual site, with everything looking like a storybook your eyes will be in awe of all the natural beauty and rustic charm. There is a place for coffee, snacks and dinner, however you can get even more creative by making a picnic experience. If you want the best experience without too many tourists and chance for incredible photos, arrive early in the morning, during the week and months which are considered cold, November, December, January.
