I went to do an erasmus in uMinho in Braga and it turned out to be a huge disappointement. In a lecture i tried to explain to one professor, that allthough i‘m a native portuguese, i‘ve done all my school career in Luxembourg, so i‘ve never had portuguese grammar lesson in my life and for that reason i have some difficulties with the language. The professor reaction was saying out loud in front of the whole class, that since this courses language is portuguese, this would not be an valuable excuse. She basically humiliated me in front of class. Except from this professor, the others were nice though. The local students in uMinho seem to have absolutly no interest in interacting with erasmus students, apart from the people of the erasmus students network.
Furthermore i want to speak about one member of the „international relations office“, which is one of the worst professionals, i‘ve ever met in my life. Completly unable to assume own mistakes, but when it comes to point out small mistakes of the students, she‘s very strong.
To get a simple signature, which is crucial for my home university, i had to start an enormous discussion over days and i‘m still not sure of getting the signature. For a thing that would take her 2 minutes, she stubbornly kept denying me the signature but had the time and energy to write a giant e-mail to my luxembourgish coordinator, where she explained in detail everything, i appaerently did wrong and even ended the e-mail by saying, that they are doing their very best to help. Biggest joke ever. My home university had no problems in giving me their signature, but for her this was not possible, because „that‘s how the rules are.“
If you are about to do an erasmus and you choose the uMinho, i would strongly recommend to you to overthink your decision. The teaching methods are from the last century and the international relations office is the definition of...
Read moreFrom an international student perspective, I can say that I found my experience at UMinho very unsatisfactory. First amd foremost, because of the very ineffective work of Academic Services and Administration, who do not do their part of the job and just create obstacles. Unfortunately, they are incapable of providing quick assistance to students and they put off solving a problem for months! They forget transferring your grades to the students' portal, one has to wait for months to get a student number and oficially 'enroll' to the university, etc. Now I have to wait for my diploma. I have already been waiting for four months and god knows when I will receive it. I find this kind of attitude absolutely outrageous and also negatively influencing the potential of international research colloboration. What a shame and...
