Fortaleza de Buarcos is located in the vila de Buarcos, Figueira da Foz, Coimbra district, Portugal. It was part, together with the Fortim of Palheiros and the Santa Catarina Fort in Figueira da Foz, the defensive system of this stretch of the Costa, namely the former seafood port of the village. It is classified as a property of public interest, by decree published in 1961. It is believed that its construction began in the reign of John I of Portugal (1385-1433), or more of Manuel I of Portugal (1495 -1521), as a defense against the attacks of English and Newlanders, as well as barbary pirates, frequent in the region. From the old fortification currently subsists only a small section of its walls, between two baluvers, parallel to the marginal of Buarcos beach.

De la antigua fortificación sólo se conserva un pequeño tramo de sus murallas , entre dos baluartes , paralelos al paseo marítimo de Buarcos. Junto con el Fortim de Palheiros y el Fuerte de Santa Catarina en Figueira da Foz, formaba parte del sistema defensivo de este tramo de costa, es decir, el antiguo puerto marítimo de la villa. Patrimonio Cultural y Propiedad de Interés Publico desde1961. Código BIDI no funciona. Gratuito, abierto las 24 horas, 365 días al año, aparcamiento al pie, acceso para personas con movilidad reducida y sillas de niños .

Convertida en villa en 1342, por fuero de Alfonso IV, es posible que Buarcos se dotara entonces de una muralla, que tiene con seguridad en el siglo XV. Atacada, e incluso tomada y saqueada, en varias ocasiones en los siglos XVI y XVII, las murallas fueron sucesivamente reformadas para adaptarse a las nuevas condiciones de los avances de la artillería. Alrededor de 1700 estaban siendo renovadas, aunque las obras se retrasarán continuamente, estando aún sin terminar en 1758. Los restos que permanecen son los de esta muralla del XVIII, de la que subsisten dos paños, tres baluartes y una de sus puertas. Han sido objeto de varias restauraciones, realizada la última en 2014.
