Furnas Lake — Attraction in Povoação

A stunning lake which would take about 2 hours to walk around it. We opted to stop in the parking lot on the east side. We had a short walk there and saw the Caldeiras where they cook the stew in the hot earth. One can hire a canoe, small boat or paddle boat in the area. We then drove to the parking on the west side of the river. There is an old gothic church and further on an information centre on the lakeside. A great place for easy walks...

We walked along the entire lake in about two and a half hours, there are several stops along the way very nice where you can take photos. You will be attracted by the sound of the fish churning in the water all the way to shore! There is a hawker selling pineapple juice and piña coladas at the start of the route, all the more...

✅ Aspectos positivos: Es uno de esos sitios que hay que ver sí o sí si estás por la zona. Está rodeado de naturaleza por todos lados y tiene un ambiente súper tranquilo. A un lado del lago están las famosas caldeiras, donde cocinan el típico cozido das Furnas bajo tierra. Solo por ver eso ya merece la pena acercarse.

Es un lugar perfecto para dar un paseo, relajarte o simplemente disfrutar de las vistas. Y además está a nada del centro de Furnas, así que es súper fácil llegar. Si te lo montas bien, lo puedes combinar con otros planes top como el Parque Terra Nostra o la capilla de Nossa Senhora das Vitórias.

❌ Aspectos negativos: El olor a azufre en algunas zonas es bastante fuerte, sobre todo si te acercas mucho a las calderas. Si tienes el olfato sensible, puede llegar a molestar.
