The waterfall is really beautiful – but the rest of the experience was not great. We were told the park closes at 6:00 PM, so we returned to the gate at 5:45 PM. But there was no one there and we were locked in. To make it worse, it was pouring rain. We were completely soaked and had no way out. Luckily, we had picked up a flyer for the chapel with a phone number on it. We called and were told someone would come. It took 30 minutes standing in heavy rain before anyone showed up. When they finally arrived, we only got a vague excuse and a half-hearted apology. No real help, no concern. We were dripping wet and very disappointed. The waterfall is nice – but getting locked in during heavy rain and being treated like that really ruined the visit.

Absolutely beautiful park! It costs 4 euros to enter. We witnessed a group of 3 adults and 5 children climbing over the fence to get into the park for free. I feel bad for these people because 4 euros is a good fee for this place and would like to see this place developed further. Lovely paths, a beautiful waterfall (one of the best I've seen on the island in this non rainy season) and a marvellous area with birds walking freely in the clearing. My only regret is that a large number of chickens are kept in a cage. The birds should be free.

Mata Jardim José do Canto, to say it’s a hidden gem doesn’t even do it justice! The forest was lush and full of life, with the centerpiece being the gorgeous waterfall. The sound of the water cascading down was incredibly peaceful. The paths were lovely to stroll through, winding past roosters and peacocks wandering freely. We also passed a towering Sequoia tree, an apple orchard , And of course, I can’t forget the Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Vitórias—so serene and beautiful.
