Our stay at Furnas Lake Forest Living is nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and professionalism by the reception team, who made us feel instantly at home. The service throughout, from front desk to housekeeping, was consistently impeccable, thoughtful, and discreet. The property itself is stunning: a perfect blend of modern architecture and natural surroundings. Each lodge offers a peaceful, private escape with minimalist design and all the comforts you could want. Everything feels intentional and serene. The standout, however, was the restaurant. Every meal was an experience; creative, beautifully plated, and full of flavor. Easily comparable to a Michelin-starred dining experience, the team brought artistry and passion to every dish, with service that was both refined and deeply personal. The only minor note is that there was some ongoing construction, as they’re expanding to build new rooms. While it was noticeable at times, it didn’t take away from the overall tranquility or experience and it’s exciting to know they’re growing to welcome even more guests to this special place. We are leaving tomorrow feeling completely rejuvenated and inspired. Furnas Lake Forest Living is a rare treasure, and we can’t wait to return.

Unbelievable beautiful and peaceful place. This place is magical. A wonderful retreat to spend a few weeks or even a few months like we are doing. Of course, it is possible to stay here a few days during a visit to the island, but you will then dream of staying longer or coming back. The villas are modern and comfortable. The views are very special. The property offers a large area to enjoy an afternoon walk and you are next to the Furnas lakes for morning strolls. You can rent a kayak, a bike or go for a hike on the hills behind the property where you can catch expansive ocean views. It is also the perfect place to do yoga, meditate or write. They have a tempting pool that we can't wait to try. The location is ideal for exploring the island. It is both remote and conveniently located near the best lookouts, hikes and towns. We are still staying here after 75 days and loving every minute of our stay. The property is privately owned. The owners, service and staff are extraordinary. We could not be more grateful and happy.

We had an exquisite dinner at the Furnas Lake Forest Living restaurant, which is is a hidden gem nestled near Furnas Lake, surrounded by nature. Our gourmet dinner with friends was unforgettable, thanks to the restaurant's stunning design, featuring large windows and ambient lighting that perfectly integrates with its natural surroundings. The attention to detail by the waitstaff was impeccable, enhancing our dining experience. I enjoyed a carefully prepared Mai Tai cocktail, complemented by a delightful first bite of white chocolate. The tapas menus featured innovative dishes like a refreshing red pepper sorbet with Villain sauce and green beans, and some unique popsicle of grilled carrots, as well as squid with wakame and thin slices of pineapple. The handcrafted desserts were the perfect end to an exquisite meal. This restaurant is a true haven for those seeking a blend of culinary artistry and serene natural beauty.

Furnas Lake Forest Living is the perfect place to stay when you visit Sao Miguel—especially for travelers seeking a good balance of comfort and independence.||First, the location is absolutely to die for—convenience-wise, it’s right across from the lake and from Mata Jardim Jose do Canto, and a very short drive from the town of Furnas proper. Beauty-wise, you feel like you are being embraced by the forest when you stay here. The grounds are just so lovely and peaceful, even on the Azores’ more foggy days.||Second, the room I stayed in (Oak studio) was excellent. It even had a little kitchen, which I was not expecting and was a very welcome bonus. It feels more like staying in a small apartment than a hotel room—even though the extremely lovely and helpful staff are just around the corner and happy to bring you anything you need. For example, I always find the mattresses abroad to be hard and tough on my back, and the staff made up my bed with an extra mattress topper and blankets to increase the softness :)||Third, the food is incredible. The dinner was the best meal I had the whole time I was on the island, and the breakfasts offer a ton of variety. I would love a recipe for that banana jam! ||There were so many nice touches—like the little arrangements of greenery and flowers pruned from their grounds that they put in the rooms and all over the property, or the jars of green tea and butter cookies left in your room when you check in. ||After my stay at Furnas Lake, I spent two nights at Octant Furnas—a larger, “fancier” hotel with more amenities—and I honestly did not enjoy it half as much. The more resort-y vibe of Octant simply didn’t mesh nearly as well with the feeling of the Azores and of the island. ||Sao Miguel is a unique destination that requires a unique hotel. Furnas Lake’s eco-conscious focus, coupled with its exceptional hospitality, is the answer. I really felt like a special guest on someone’s beautiful estate, and in fact almost like an old friend. I hope to be...

This place is in a beautiful location close to Furnas lake. We stayed in a cedar villa as a family of 2 adults and 2 kids. ||The villa is clean and comfortable. It has 1 bedroom, and a pull out bed in the living room. The living room unfortunately doesn’t have curtains, so it meant our kids woke up as soon as it was light outside. I did ask at reception about curtains or blinds, but they explained that it’s a living area and not a sleeping area. Just be aware of this - it’s great for couples, perhaps less suited for families.||The breakfasts were delicious, not a buffet but they made as much of everything as we wanted and had a good selection of hot and cold fresh, local options including pastries/cakes baked onsite which were amazing. Their home made granola was also amazing!||Tea and coffee were provided in the room, but not milk - take your own if you like milk with your tea/coffee. I did ask at reception about this too, and they explained that because the room comes with a kitchenette, they don’t provide milk. But they were happy to give us a small jug from the restaurant which gave us time to get our own later. ||The main reason why I haven’t given more stars is due to the price. I booked quite far in advance which was probably a mistake - I paid over €400 per night which is at least 20% more than I paid for any of the other places we stayed in Sao Miguel, which were just as good as (or better than) this one. Sao Miguel has some amazing options! ||If you can get a fair price, then this is a great option in a beautiful spot...
