The grandest and most imposing of all of Lisbon’s viewing points isn’t in Lisbon. More specifically, the viewing point where nature reveals its true power isn’t in Lisbon. It lies between Cascais and Sintra and obliges visitors to travel along one of the prettiest roads in the region. The slow and winding climb doesn’t suggest the magnitude of the view from the most westerly point in continental Europe. Cape Roca, in the Sintra hills, combines calmness and inclement weather in one place; a wide, open area where the land drops abruptly into the sea from its 140-metre-high cliffs. Once you go back up you wonder how going down to the beach was even possible. The beach may seem small, dwarfed by the majestic rocky outcroppings and massive waves, But one can barely see the other if at both ends. The roar of the ocean is powerful and mighty, there is an adventurous archway that you can go under, with rock climbing bolts for the extreme adventurers. You can also try your hand at bouldering, which I did on one of the solo outcroppings. The colors are extreme and vibrant, even to the point that you seem to be in a dream. Read moreBeautiful beach! If you can face the challenge that is to climb down and up afterwards you will be rewarded with a spectacular view in a beach that's only yours. Clear, clean sand and water, an arc that looks like a cave and you can look up to the Cabo da Roca, it's breathtaking. The trail is not too tricky, you just need to be careful and come prepared with shoes with a good grip.
