I'm a big model enthusiast and visited several such displays throughout Europe. Until now, I regarded the Hamburg one being the best, but now, honestly the St. Pet's doesn't have a match - in one word it's amazing. I see many people here focus this as a primary kids attraction which I can only partially agree. Kids observe this display as a toy, for me it's a piece of art. The display is split into two huge sections (west and east Russia) in one enormous room, divided by the central passageway (marks the Europe-Asia border). Every Russia major city with its landmarks, as well all regions are geographically displayed with millions of tiny objects. Hundreds of moving trains, cars, planes, working plants, mines, oil platforms, ski and sea resorts,....you name it, it's there. Every 15 min the room turns dark and display illuminated showing the night scene which is again amazing. Unseen attention to details with high technology makes you stare at this in disbelief. Make sure to read the plaques showing the number of something and many interesting facts. Grand Maket is not in the prime tourist area, but in a residential part of town with nothing else to see around, but worth every...
Read moreGrand Maket Russia is such an entertaining and fascinating attraction! The amount of detail is incredible,,, funny, cute, & spectacular little scenes are tucked into every corner, making it a delight to explore. As a family interested in all of Russia, we spent about 40 minutes to an hour walking around & could have easily stayed longer.
One of the most impressive parts was the display of military and naval bases, which was both educational & engaging. It’s a great place to watch, learn, & simply enjoy the artistry and storytelling of the miniature world.
A very important tip: arrive at least an hour before the closing time. The last ticket sales happen one hour before the museum closes.
Some online sources say Grand Maket stays open until 9 PM on Wednesdays and Fridays this is incorrect. When we visited on a Wednesday, we arrived at 6:55 PM expecting a later closing, only to find the ticket office already shutting down. Staff confirmed their hours are 10 AM to 8 PM daily.
Other than that, the experience was wonderful, the place is absolutely worth a visit if you’re in...

It’s a huge, detailed miniature model of the entire country, showing cities, villages, trains, cars, and even people in everyday life scenes. The level of detail is incredible, and the moving parts, lights, and sound effects make it feel alive. Children will love the interactive buttons that activate trains, cars, animals, and even volcanoes! The day-to-night lighting effect is magical and adds to the experience. You can easily spend 1–2 hours here exploring all the little scenes. It’s also educational and entertaining for adults. The museum is clean, well-organized, and easy to reach by metro or taxi. There’s even a small park nearby for kids to play after the visit. Highly recommended for families—a must-visit if you're traveling with children in...
