The very intereseting place of southern Hungarian history...Bács County was established by King St Stephen around year 1000. During this time fortresswas first built from surrounding material.At the time of the Mongol invasion, 1241. was burnt down.On the order of King Charles Robert, between 1338 and 1342, was re-built on the outstanding land of the swamps. The fortress was built on the basis of French castles as an octagonal foundation. The castle wall was surrounded by a three-fold system of fortifications, reinforced by watchtowers and cannons. Two churches were built in the castle area.Péter Váradi Bishop, seeing the Turkish danger clearly, immediately began to renovate the defense system of the Knight's Castle, among other things by guiding the Danube into the dungeon system.During the peasant war led by György Dózsa in 1514, a significant number of crusaders gathered in the area, and the dreadful Gergely Frangepán Kalocsa Bishop escorted them to the fortress. The soldiers from Nándorfehérvár ( Belgrade) garrison disarmed the armed peasants who maintained the blockade.In the year 1526 during the Mohács battle with the Turks, the Turkish Sultan army occupied it for a short time. A permanent Ottoman presence took place in 1529. In 1543 only 106 serbian mercenaries serving the Turks were in the fortress. In 1604, Christian troops occupied a short period of time, which the Turks began to recapture in just two years. The "valiant" castle defenders blasted and ruined it’s walls in several places and ran away. The occupying Ottoman army soon restored the ruined parts. In 1628, there were just 6 gunners, 10 pedestrians and an unidentified number South Slav mercenaries.In the second half of 1686, the Habsburg army marched into the fortress without any casualties. His last military role was during the II. Ferenc Rákóczi War of Independence, when in July 1704, the besieged Kurucs fired the roof of their buildings, but they were unable to occupy the fiercely defended garrison of Austrians. However, in the next year, due to the worsening of the military situation, the Austrian captain blasted his defense walls and then ran away.In 1842 the Governor of Bács County strictly forbidden to wear the bricks of the castle ruin. Bačku županiju osnovao je kralj Sv. Stefan oko 1000. godine. Za to vrijeme tvrdjava je bila izgrađena je od okolnog materijala i zemlje. U vrijeme mongolske invazije, 1241. g. je spaljena. Po naređenju kralja Karla Roberta, između 1338. i 1342. godine , sagrađena na izdignutoj zemlji iznad močvara. Tvrđava je izgrađena na temelju francuskih dvoraca sa osmougaonom osnovom. Zid dvorca bio je okružen trostrukim sustavom utvrda, ojačanim stražarskim kulama i topovima. Na području dvorca izgrađene su dvije crkve. Péter Váradi Biskup, koji je jasno vidio tursku opasnost, odmah je počeo obnavljati obrambeni sustav viteškog dvorca, između ostalog uvodeci Dunav u odbrambene kanale. Za vreme seljacke bune Dózsa Györgya se 1514. god se u području okupio značajan broj krstaskih vitezova, a preplaseni biskup Gergely Frangepán od Kolocse ih je sproveo do tvrđave. You will find some information about the site in Serbian and English at the entrance. When I was there last time the entrance was free (in fact there was no staff members at the site).
