The very intereseting place of southern Hungarian history...Bács County was established by King St Stephen around year 1000. During this time fortresswas first built from surrounding material. At the time of the Mongol invasion, 1241. was burnt down.On the order of King Charles Robert, between 1338 and 1342, was re-built on the outstanding land of the swamps. The fortress was built on the basis of French castles as an octagonal foundation. The castle wall was surrounded by a three-fold system of fortifications, reinforced by watchtowers and cannons. Two churches were built in the castle area.Péter Váradi Bishop, seeing the Turkish danger clearly, immediately began to renovate the defense system of the Knight's Castle, among other things by guiding the Danube into the dungeon system.During the peasant war led by György Dózsa in 1514, a significant number of crusaders gathered in the area, and the dreadful Gergely Frangepán Kalocsa Bishop escorted them to the fortress. The soldiers from Nándorfehérvár ( Belgrade) garrison disarmed the armed peasants who maintained the blockade. In the year 1526 during the Mohács battle with the Turks, the Turkish Sultan army occupied it for a short time. A permanent Ottoman presence took place in 1529. In 1543 only 106 serbian mercenaries serving the Turks were in the fortress. In 1604, Christian troops occupied a short period of time, which the Turks began to recapture in just two years. The "valiant" castle defenders blasted and ruined it’s walls in several places and ran away. The occupying Ottoman army soon restored the ruined parts. In 1628, there were just 6 gunners, 10 pedestrians and an unidentified number South Slav mercenaries. In the second half of 1686, the Habsburg army marched into the fortress without any casualties. His last military role was during the II. Ferenc Rákóczi War of Independence, when in July 1704, the besieged Kurucs fired the roof of their buildings, but they were unable to occupy the fiercely defended garrison of Austrians. However, in the next year, due to the worsening of the military situation, the Austrian captain blasted his defense walls and then ran away.In 1842 the Governor of Bács County strictly forbidden to wear the bricks of the castle ruin. Bačku županiju osnovao je kralj Sv. Stefan oko 1000. godine.

Beautiful place to visit, I came when the museum was closed, but walking around the grounds is good enough. To imagine this place back when it was occupied. There is an English explanation at the entrance and a diagram also in English. remember no vandalism and take out what you bring in, no littering. there are barrels, but off season they probable don't get picked up. After walking around the fortress, head to the left when leaving and head to the gate, cross over the bridge, and walk around the beautiful village of Bać. You may expect some other tourists at the site, particularly during the season. There is a small gift shop which is part of the site. You will find some information about the site in Serbian and English at the entrance. When I was there last time the entrance was free (in fact there was no staff members at the site). I haven't noticed any food or coffee place in the immediate surrounding of the fortress, so you may have to go to the center of the settlement or even nearby towns (e. g....

As you are entering this place or just reading this review, know that this place is more than a millenium old. The first written sources date back to 535AD. During the 9th century this was a Barbarian fortress. This fortress was conquered by the Mongolians in 1241. This is the oldest fortress in Vojvodina. After the early 17th century the fortresss was burned, demolished and never renovated again. It is easily accessible by car and parking is free. It's free for visitors.
