Middle age original castle in the heart of Pirot. Well preserved and lately alro renovated. The only problem in Serbia, as for everything else, remains the maintenance. I hope that city will find the fundings and make effort in maintaining the current state (eg flags are already ready to be replaced, corners around should be cleaned regularly and people should be educated to NOT throw the garbage all around). Park in the complex is well maintained and offers different activities for the kids, including sound effects in the winter and Xmas time. Recommendation for the kids...
Read more2025: Back ~6 years later. Now a renovated, modern fortress, open for a few hours a day 10 - 15h, free to enter. There are even screens with videos promoting and explaining Serbian culture. I loved it. So glad things have changed for the better! Be responsible and keep it clean.

Read moreGreat fortress for visiting Pirot. It got restaurated over last years and it is very accessible. There are no entry fees (free entry) during the working hours. In front of there is a great walking area and very nice park for children and pets. There is also a public toilet located next to the small museum building before entering fortress. Parking is also right next to the whole complex but it is not for free. However fees for the parking are reasonable. I highly recommend this place...
