What do you have to say about a neighbourhood/heartland mall? Not much! While Aperia Mall isn't built right next to a housing estate, it is occupied by an odd mix of tenants that are unlikely to catch the attention of cafe-hopping hipsters, savvy shoppers and discount-hungry aunties. Located within walking distance from Lavender MRT, it is easily recognisable for its sloping, angular architectural design and reflective, glassy facade.
If you do happen to drop by here to meet a friend, or say, have your Microsoft products repaired - Microsoft's service centre is located right here, here are a few things you can do to kill time away there:
Chill at Spinelli Cafe: Spinelli serves up a mean ice blended matcha, replete with blended bits of azuki beans, and it is clearly superior to its counterparts served by Coffee Bean and Starbucks. It carries notes of bittersweet matcha without having a disproportionately large ratio of milk to matcha powder (ahem - Coffee bean). The ice is pulverised to an icy paste, which is delightful. The coffee beans they use are also a notch above the competition - I find their Picolo Latte quite fragrant. There is a pair of power outlets located below the countertops and WIRELESS@SG for use here.
Go green for lunch with Nature Cafe: There is a quaint little vegetarian restaurant located along the passageway leading from one wing of Aperia Mall to its atrium. It serves savoury local fare at affordable prices, and it doesn't hurt that they serve up generous portions. I would recommend their braised bean paste cabbage and tofu rice set ($7+) and spicy brinjal minced mock meat rice set ($7+).
Purchase some Ziplocks and storage containers at almost wholesale prices at Lee Tat Seng Polyethylene Co: I patronize this family business to purchase my ziplock bags and plastic disposables as they offer great service, a wide range of disposables for purchase, and they sell Lacy's ziplocks cheaper than Sheng Shiong. Lacy's ziplocks are much more durable and thicker than the brands you find at NTUC - Glad/Ziploc.
Notably, there are fitness studios (pole-dancing for ladies), a cold Cold Storage outlet, small little cafes, a bubble tea stall, a hawker centre, a Korean mart, hair salons, Western and Japanese restaurants, a one-star Michelin Dim Sum restaurant (Tim Ho Wan - overhyped Dim Sum though - Try Hua Ting Restaurant (ććșé€ć ) at Orchard Hotel instead) and Saizeriya here. In all honesty though, there isn't a whole lot of to do here, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people might like this place for not having to knock elbows with a crowd, even...
Read moreWent to pick up food. Security from Triple S took a notepad noting down all vehicles parking on pick up and drop off point. Don't understand. If the mall dont welcome shoppers. Please indicate in your website. It also doesn't quite make sense to park and walk a big round to pick up the food. Feedback to the management. They commented that the security was doing their job. So shoppers who are there to pick up food must park at loading and unloading bay. This is also the rule imposed on all grab or foodpanda riders. I find this management very weird and unacceptable. I was there to pick up and go. Not there for a shopping spree. No other shopping malls had given me this kind of problem except for aperia mall. Really a strange way of management. Well best to avoid this place otherwise you may get summoned... By security. For no good reasons it spoilt the...
Read moreAperia Mall is a breath of fresh air with wide spaces, open ceilings and a sunroof that is tinted to obscure direct sunlight exposure while still allowing some natural light into the mall's environment. It is home to Thai Supermarket which is one of its kind in Singapore where you can find all sorts of products from all over Thailand that are specifically imported for this store.
There are also halal food outlets like My Spice Affair, an Indonesian-inspired eating outlet and Singaporeans' favourite American dose of McDonald's. Aperia Mall is served by Downtown Line's (DT23) Bendemeer MRT Station where you can take 61, 961 or 961M from DT23 Exit B Bus Stop (no. 60019) and alight at the Aperia Mall Bus Stop (no. 07379) located right in front...
